BRIGHT, Jeffrey Lewis Oct. 11, 1948 - Dec. 28, 2021 It is with profound sadness that we announce that Jeffrey Lewis Bright passed away on December 28, 2021 at home with his family. He suffered from metastatic lung cancer for 10 months. He leaves his wife, Christine Nevins Bright of Wayland, MA, and his daughter Emily Bright Lo Piccolo and her husband Michael Lo Piccolo of Austin, TX. Jeff was the son of Jean Gregson Bright, now living between Raleigh, NC and Wheat Ridge, CO, and the late William Bright. He is survived by his brother David Bright and his wife Suzie Bright of Kittredge, CO, his sister Patricia Bright of Wheat Ridge, CO, and his sister Elizabeth Sink, her husband Jim Sink, and Jeff's niece Anna Laurie Sink of Raleigh, NC. Jeff's mother met his father during World War II in England. His British heritage was very important to him and a strong part of his identity. During adolescence he made many solo trips to visit family in England. In the early years of marriage it was important to Jeff to bring his wife Chris to meet a favorite aunt and uncle and group of cousins. Jeff's daughter Emily is said to have a bit of the Yorkshire blood. Jeff graduated from Penn State University and received a master's degree from Northeastern University. He worked as Director of Communications at Joslin Diabetes Center from 2004 until his retirement in 2019. Having Type 1 Diabetes, he was able to participate in several clinical trials during his time there. Jeff earned the respect of many, but especially of those who worked under his supervision. Jeff was known for his intellect, his smile, and his dry, quick wit. He was a voracious reader and a history buff. He loved simple enjoyments like cooking, baking, planting herbs, watching the steam rise from the compost heap, and identifying birds and flowers in his backyard. Above all else, he was a wonderful husband and father. He was just beginning to plan his retirement when the pandemic hit, canceling a trip to Paris and the south of France. More long-awaited adventures were being discussed when he was diagnosed with advanced cancer. His passing is an enormous loss to his family and friends. Contributions in his memory may be sent to Facing Cancer Together (
https://facing-cancer.org/donate/) or to Joslin Diabetes Center. A gathering to remember Jeff will be held this summer with further information to come.
