I just learned the sad news that my Boston College Law School classmate and good friend John Callahan has died. I was there when John first met his wife Kathy in Boston and also John was present when I married my wife Lucy in New Hampshire in 1960. As often happens, we had very little contact over the years while he was practicing law in Massachusetts and I was practicing law in New Hampshire.

I will always remember John as exceptionally talented and still very humble and kind.

Lucy and I express our condolences to Kathy and their family for their loss. John leaves all of us with wonderful memories of joyful times from a life well lived with many outstanding accomplishments. Dave KillKelley

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

As my neighbor and friend for over 30 years in South Hadley, John was a source of wit and fellowship. In addition he was admired by me for his insight and persuasion in support of several causes we shared, not the least of which were sportsmanship and fair play, tennis, local charitiies and politics. There was nobody I respected more. We've lost a wonderful man. Dick Towne

As a young lawyer I tried my first jury case in the old superior court house against John. He was very kind to me and even though he was my opponent, he allowed me to live for another day. Please accept my heart felt condolences.

I am in South Carolina and can not attend, but was sad to hear of John's passing. A lawyer's lawyer and stalwart in the trial bar. I enjoyed many good moments with John and he and his family will be in my thoughts and prayers.

John was an opponent in high school and Legion baseball and a teammate for the Quonset Club in the summer. He was a man of great integrity who served my parents as their attorney. Until later years we realized we were both working at the CIA at the same time. His career was marked with the highest professionalism but always with concern for others. He was someone of stalwart character who set the best of examples for all who knew him. I was always glad he was a friend. My thoughts are with all the Callahans at this time.

Dear Kathy
What a wonderful guy and a great husband and dad! When I sat with you through your labors and births and reassured John along the way, I knew that he was always overjoyed by the birth of his daughters. Along our long friendship,John proved to be a gallant boyfriend a charming host a discriminating gourmet and a brave consort to your incredible energy. A very special partner. With much love to you and your family, remember all the good times and rejoice in the inexorbital present. Bill and Lucetta

John was universally respected and very well-liked by his peers. He regularly displayed those qualities which we recognize in great lawyersa keen and ever current knowledge and understanding of the law, zealous advocacy practiced with total preparation, a genuine and caring commitment to the cause of a client, a natural presence in the courtroom where he displayed the ability to convince others by credibly teaching and guiding them toward understanding his proposition in a particular matter and all done with great respect and collegiality, well-timed humor and an ever willing smile which could easily slip into a hearty laugh. We shall all remember John as one of our best in the profession as well as an outstanding and giving member of his community. Please accept my deepest sympathy.

To John's family. John and I were classmates in Hooker and Russell Schools. His Dad and mine were very close friends. I remember him as an excellent student, good athlete and just a nice guy. Please accept my very deepest sympathy.

Hello Kathy. I share your grief although I understand that this has been a long and difficult process for you and for everyone who loved and cared about John. I could not have had a better supporter or President Elect and I will be forever grateful for his friendship. As I have often said, give a father an engaging and interesting and competent daughter and he will turn into a first rate feminist and John certainly did. He was so very proud of you and all the "girls". I think for a while I got almost daily updates of their activities. He was a good man and may he rest in peace. And may you and the "girls" be comforted during this difficult time by all the good memories you have. I
Just as an aside, I need to be in Boston Saturday to attend a funeral of yet another legal giant, Vin McCarthy, and my daughter (now 34!) is coming in from California. So please excuse my absence. I will be there in spirit for sure. With my sincerest condolences, Alice Richmond
