John CASSIDY Obituary

CASSIDY, John "Jack" Thomas Age 94, of Braintree, MA, entered into eternal rest, peacefully on December 22, 2023, surrounded by family, following a long illness.

He was the beloved husband of Gloria (Scoglio) Cassidy, for 66 years; and the devoted father of Catherine Sullivan and her late husband, Francis, Christine Fitzgerald and her husband, Paul of Braintree, Jackie and his wife, Kathy and Caroline Tatara and her husband, Eric of Chelmsford. He was also the adored Grampa and Pop-Pop to nine grandchildren, Michael and Cameron Sullivan, Sean and Kerriann Fitzgerald, Nick Cassidy and his wife, Samara and Catalina Cassidy and Kevin, Ryan and Stephanie Tatara. He was predeceased by his parents, Catherine M. and John P. Cassidy.

He was a 1947 graduate of Boston English High School and went on to receive a degree in engineering from Northeastern University. He worked for over 40 years at United Shoe Machinery Corporation (USMC), first in Boston, where he met his wife Gloria, and then in Beverly. While working at USMC, he also became a member of the Air National Guard. He was called to active duty in 1961 as part of the 102nd Tactical Fighter Wing during the Berlin Wall Crisis. In 1978, after 25 years in the Air National Guard, he retired as a Colonel.

Jack was a man of great faith, serving as a Eucharistic minister, lector, and usher at St. Francis of Assisi in Braintree. He was very proud to be on the Board of Directors of Independence Manor. He also was known for his generosity and humor, and he will dearly be missed by all who knew and loved him.

Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours on Thursday, January 4, from 4:00 to 7:00 PM, in the Cartwright Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington St., BRAINTREE. A Funeral Mass will be held on Friday, January 5, at 10:00 AM, in St. Francis of Assisi Church, Braintree. Burial will follow in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne. My husband and I worked with Jack at USMC and later Dynapert. He was such a nice man. Always cheerfull and showed the light of Jesus Christ. We both had a great fondness for him.

Mr. Cassidy and his family were across the street neighbors with The Scriveners, my grandparents. I lived on Brow Av with them one summer in 1971. Mr. Cassidy had such a wonderful warm and friendly way about him. Jackie and I became friends and his father helped us build a go cart perfect for coasting down Brow Ave. I also remember Mr. Cassidy letting a little child have a short ride on their gigantic family dog. I think it was a Saint Bernard.

Mr. Cassidy for years would ALWAYS remember to stop by before Christmas eve to drop off Reindeer food for my 3 boys...........this went on for many years and was looked forward to as a tradition for us to sprinkle on our lawn for the Reindeer on Christmas eve! Rest in Peace.
