52, of Dorchester passed away peacefully, January 21, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with cancer. Born in Methuen, MA, John grew up in North Andover and lived in Haverhill before settling in the Boston area, where he worked at Costa Food Distributors. At the time of his passing, John was surrounded by his sister Tina, brother Jim, and dear friend Laurie Riley of Burlington, MA. John was the son of the late James and Justine Doherty. He is survived by his beloved son, Jay Doherty, of Plymouth MA., sister Tina Bucchio of Newton, NH, brother James Doherty of Amesbury, MA, several nieces and nephews, and brothers Joe Doherty and Jeff Doherty, both of New Hampshire. John was an avid SCI-FI enthusiast, who also enjoyed repairing and building computer systems. His quiet demeanor and dry sense of humor endeared him to many. John was also a long time friend of Bill W. A Memorial Service will be held at the IBEW Hall at 256 Freeport St., Dorchester, MA on Saturday, February 2nd, from 1pm-3 pm. Donations in John's memory can be made to the John P Doherty Memorial Fund at P.O. Box 108, Haverhill, MA.
