John married Jane Pate and myself while he was still attending Yale Divinity School in 1951.
Climbing Mt. Washington with John and other Randolph club members was most invigorating and, sometimes, challenging.

Farewell, my everlasting friend & whom I considered my second dad. Words cannot express the total scope of emotions that joins the emptiness of my heart. Be at rest from your earthly work. I look towards the promise of seeing you again in Our Lords Kingdom ,along with the others that has passed . Till then you shall always be in my heart. I love you ,dearly .

John was an extraordinary person and we will miss him greatly. His kindness, intellect, and love for all he met was inspirational and a gift to anyone lucky to have known him. We wish Josie and the whole family our condolences and love.
