JOHN FISHER Obituary

FISHER, John E. Of Weymouth, formerly of Braintree for most of his life, passed away peacefully on August 5, 2017, at the age of 93, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Norwood and raised in Dorchester, he was the son of the late John and Julia Fisher. He was the beloved husband of 59 years to the love of his life, the late Mary L. Fisher (Flaherty). Upon high school graduation, John enlisted as a paratrooper in the 503rd Regimental Combat Team. He served as a Sergeant in the South Pacific during World War II, and was awarded the Philippine Liberation Ribbon and the Asiatic Pacific Campaign Ribbon with Bronze Service Star. John was a proud graduate of Boston College, and earned his Master's Degree from Boston Teacher's College. He worked as an educator in the Boston Public School System for 36 years, and retired as Principal of the Philbrick Elementary School in Roslindale. He was an instructor for the Drum Corps in Braintree for 15 years, and started the Philbrick School marching band, the first and only school marching band in the City of Boston at the time. John was also a coach for Braintree Little League, coach and Director for Braintree Youth Hockey for 20 years, a longtime member of the Saint Clare's Church Bowling League, The Braintree Golf Club and the American Legion Post 86. John was known for his devotion to his family and strong faith. He was a humble and compassionate man who had a positive influence on so many people, including his loving wife Mary, his children, grandchildren, and extended family along with thousands of children and students in the City of Boston. He was a lifelong learner who loved to read self-improvement books on golf, piano and many other subjects well into his 90's. He was a lifetime Boston sports fan, especially his beloved Red Sox. John and Mary took great pride in raising their 8 children, and loved and adored their 24 grandchildren. They cherished family memories spent at their home on Lake Wequaquet on Cape Cod, lively family holidays at Daniel Road and attending children's and grandchildren's sporting events. John was the loving father of John and his wife Susan Fisher of Plymouth, Paul and his wife Julie Fisher of Needham, James and his wife Christina Fisher of Longmeadow, Robert and his wife Marianne Fisher of Norwell, Gail Fisher of Norwell, Jane and her husband Barry O'Driscoll of Norwell, Jill and her husband Brendan Brazel of Hingham and Tom and his wife Leanne Fisher of Braintree. Devoted brother of the late Robert Fisher, Vernon Fisher, Virginia Jakubajtys, Clifford Fisher and Shirley Fisher. Reposing at the Cartwright-Venuti Funeral Home, 845 Washington Street, BRAINTREE until 10:30 AM on Wednesday, August 9th followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 AM in Saint Clare's Church in Braintree. Mr fish,

To the entire Fisher family. My thoughts are with you all. "Mr. Fish" was a true gentlemen and a great family man. He was always very kind, positive and welcoming. I will forever remember putting for quarters (keep your head down), ping pong for dimes and occasionally him stepping in as a pinch hitter in a whiffle ball game on the lake. (great memories). He was a very positive influence on my life. With sympathy and love, Sean and the entire Rizzo Family
