Dear Pettinelli Family,
I'm so sorry for your loss. Although I grew up in Weymouth (Class of 1960), I met John thru mutual friends. I believe we first met at Ho Jo's on the Artery, and as we "got older", we all went to the Beachcomber and the Flamingo Lounge on Wollaston Beach. John and I dated a couple of times, and as Tom Foley said, Mom's loved John. We all loved John. I remember John would walk into my parents and give my Mom a hug. I hadn't thought about John in years, and the beginning of this month, John flashed into my mind. Now I know why. They say when you are leaving this world, you flash into the minds of people you know, it's your way of saying Goodbye. I know John must have been very busy flashing into peoples minds. John had a tremendous amount of friends, and he will be missed by all.

MY NAME IS TOM FOLEY. I HAVE KNOWN JOHN SINCE THE PARKER ELEMENTARY SCHOOL DAYS. DAYDAY, I'M SURE YOU WILL REMEMBER ME.
I MISSED OUR LAST TWO RECENT REUNIONS, ONE OF WHICH WAS A PARKER SCHOOL REUNION A COUPLE OF MONTHS AGO. I DID RECEIVE AN E-MAIL WITH THE REUNION PICS AND JOHN GOT A BIT GRAYER BUT I PICKED HIM OUT RIGHT AWAY.
OUR KIDS HAD MANY PLAY DATES TOGETHER WHEN THEY WERE YOUNG. BUT AS THE KIDS GOT INVOLVED WITH THEIR ACTIVITIES WE DRIFTED APART.
AFTER SEEING JOHN IN THE REUNION PICS I DID A SEARCH ON THE TOWN OF WHITMAN AND FOUND JOHN'S WORK E-MAIL ADDRESS. I WAS COMING UP TO MASS FOR 2 WEEKS AND SENT JOHN AN E-MAIL SO WE COULD HOOK UP. I WAS DISAPPOINTED THAT I NEVER HEARD FROM JOHN AND NOW I KNOW WHY.
JOHN WAS A TRUE FRIEND, ALWAYS THERE WHEN YOU NEEDED A FRIEND.
I NEVER MET JOHN'S WIFE BUT WANT TO EXTEND MY SYMPATHY TO HER AND THE REST OF JOHN'S FAMILY.
WE HAD LOT'S OF GREAT MEMORIES THAT WE SHARED. ONE OF THE GREATEST WAS WHEN JOHN BROUGHT HIS IRISH FRIEND TO THE TORE DEPAS BEFORE THE QUINCY/ NORTH QUINCY THANKSGIVING FOOTBALL GAMES. I THINK JOHN AND I WERE THE ONLY ONES THERE ROOTING FOR NQ AND I KNOW I WAS THE ONLY IRISHMAN.
I WAS WITH JOHN THE FIRST NIGHT I STAYED OUT ALL NIGHT LONG. WHEN I CALLED HOME SUNDAY MORNING AND GOT YELLED AT, I JUST SAID BUT MOM I WAS WITH JOHN. THAT SEEMED TO MAKE IT OK.
SO MANY GREAT MEMORIES, TACKLE FOOTBALL DOWN WOLLASTON BEACH IN THE WINTER, PICKUP B-BALL GAMES AT THE PARKER SCHOOL, BASEBALL IN THE TENNIS COURTS AT O'NEIL FIELD, SNEAKING INTO THE DRIVE-IN IN THE TRUNK, DRINKING BEER ON THE SEA WALL AT WOLLASTON BEACH, SQUANTUM PARTIES, SQUAW ROCK, THE GRAVES, SUBMARINE RACES AT WOLLASTON BEACH, HOWARD JOHNSON'S 3-D's, 7E's CLAMS AND ONION RINGS, HANGING ON THE CORNER AT THE NEIGHBORHOOD DRUG STORE UP THE DOWNS, THEN GRADUATING ACROSS THE STREET TO THE TOM ENGLISH PUB.
I REGRET NOW THAT WE DRIFTED APART AND I WAS SO LOOKING FORWARD TO VISITING WITH YOU ON MY TRIP UP TO MASS.
JOHN HAD MANY FRIENDS AND WILL BE MISSED BY ALL.

My deepest sympathy to John's wife and family. All who met John at Oak Point, remember his warmth and personality. I remember him best for our discussions about the recent losses of our children, John's son Mark, and my daughter, Brittany and how horrid the pain is. Dear John, I know that Mark had to have met you at the gates of Heaven~ there is no other way that I can imagine that you, too were taken too soon. I pray that you are together in eternal peace and happiness~you will live on in our hearts and minds for eternity. I am blessed to have met you.
My deepest sympathy to your family~

I was shocked and saddened to read of John's passing. Over the years I have known him, he brought many a smile to my face as he enjoyed life and people to the fullest.

To The Pettinelli Family:
I have known John for a very long time he was a friend of my brother who hung around the "Downs" with DayDay,after I grew up I became a member of the the Whitman Fire Dept. and came to know John again when he started working in Whitman. He would stop by my Mom and Dads, who also lived in Whitman, every so often and talk about the good old days of growing up in North Quincy.
To the entire Pettinelli my heart felt sympathy, John you will be in my prayers.
Sincerly,
Skip Fletcher

John was not only a co-worker, but he was a friend to my step father, who knew John as a very smart man. Rest in peace John, I'm sure PaPa Joe was at the golden gate waiting for you. God bless his family.
