Jackie was my first childhood friend . We were friends at age 3 .

Jackie Simone and I were best friends at age 3 . We lived a few house away . When the dirt sidewalks were wet from rain , Jackie and I would make mudpies together . I remember Maude , Tullio , Uncle Louie , Peter , Vinny , and John's first wife , Dorothy .There was a large vegetable garden outside Jackie's house . We played in it with our toy trucks . We ate ray rhubarb from the garden , and we raided two peach trees . We played with another boy next door - John "Butch " Carroll . I remember Jackie at around aged 9 , holding his first electric guitar - a big white hollow body . He was proud of that ! The Simones then moved and I lost touch with Jackie . But we both became musicians , and that led to us meeting again . He was a dear friend and a nice man .

Jackie was my first friend . We made mudpies on the dirt sidewalk after a rain . We were each 3 years old . I remember Vinny, Peter , Maude , Tullio , and elderly Uncle Louie . And a huge vegetable garden with peach trees , where we kids ate raw rhubarb and peaches , and where we played with our toy cars and trucks . I remember John , around aged 9 , holding his first electric guitar in his living room - it was a white hollww body , which he proudly showed me and another boy next door , John " Butch " Carroll . The Simone family moved when John and I were around 10 , but years later I'd run into when he played bass on various groups. He was a great friend during our early years , and a very nice man as well .

John was a kind and loving gentleman. He filled my life with music and laughter.
Although our marriage did not survive the difficulties of life our friendship never wavered.
My love for you John, is eternal.
I will meet you on the other side. You will no doubt be playing your guitar and singing in "perfect pitch".
John playin' the Blues around 2012 with Overdue Blues.

It feels like I've known John Simone my entire life; it probably works out to around 60 years. I always admired his natural musicianship, his easy-going way, and his wacky sense of humor. After High School we drifted apart and lost touch.
Years later (around 2009) Facebook reunited us and we occasionally played music together. John had an album-full of music he'd recorded and he brought me into the studio to add a few guitar tracks.
Not long after, my new Blues band needed a bass player. John Simone was my first and only choice. That was Overdue Blues, and the attached picture was taken at the Riv in Bridgewater around 2012.
John was an original who remained true to himself and his art. Even when it became difficult for him to stand, he remained committed to playing his music. I and so many, many others were touched by his vulnerable humanity and talent, and will miss him dearly.

I grew up on Hunnewell Ave about three blocks from John's house, we were together all through school. I remember him very fondly, warm, bright and so talented.
Last year I visited Newton with another friend from the neighborhood and John called him while we were driving down Park Street. We pulled into Burr Park and must have talked for half an hour.
After 40+ years without contact it was like we had seen each other the day before, the same energy.
I can still see him on the stage at Bigelow with Rich and the Daves

I have fond memories of sharing time with John... his loyalty to friends and the pleasure he received from them.. his folk songs on guitar... watching Bobby Orr playoff games at his home in West Newton... the charisma, charm and energy he brought to his Newton schools, including Murray Road... his encyclopedic knowledge of music... his smile.
We will miss John.

I knew John in jr high and high school in Newton -- we were fellow Murray Roaders. And in these later years, long time Facebook friends.
John was a wonderful, imaginative, creative, musical and warm guy.
There is now a little less music in the world without him.
Sending my condolences to his family and his friends back east.
John, you are missed. Go in Peace, my old friend.
