Just heard from my cousin Keith Anderson of Joe's untimely passing. Joe made it "cool" to be in the NHS Band. He had that great sense of humor. I am honored to know him.
I send my heartfelt condolence to the Joe Johnson family.

Coach Johnson had a profound impact on me and I will never forget him. I had the pleasure to be coached by him in Little League for several years and he taught me the real meaning of competition and sport. He nominated my brother and I for the Little League Sportsmanship Award and I will always carry that with me. He taught me that winning was not everything. While we always tried our best, it was so important to play with dignity and respect for your opponent. Only then could you truly win.
Rest in Peace, Coach.

Joe Johnson, neighborhood icon, great athlete, great guy, big brother to my life-long friends. You have left us all to soon, leaving a wonderful family and many loved ones behind. I can still see you playing ball in the street and shooting hoop on the side of your house. I always admired you and had so much respect for all you accomplished. A true Norwood treasure from Cameron Road. God Bless the loved ones you leave behind and my God rest your soul.

Kathy, Kelly, and CJ - so terribly sorry for your loss. Joe (or double J as we liked to call him), was likely the nicest person I've ever had the pleasure of knowing. He truly was one of a kind. This picture is exactly how those who knew him will remember him. A sincere smile ear to ear. I will miss him dearly. Keep those special memories close to you. He loved you all more than anything.
Much love to you all.

Joe touched my family's lives in so many ways. As a patient coach to Jacob, and then to Joshua ... as a mentor to me and to Fran when we entered into youth coaching, and as someone that I could admire as an active member of our parish, and as a friend. He will be missed, and remembered fondly.
