JOSEPH GERARD McCANN Sr.

1940 - 2025

McCANN, Joseph Gerard Sr. Passed on Friday, January 24, 2025, surrounded by loved ones. Joe was born in Dorchester, MA on July 30, 1940 to Michael McCann and Mary McCann (O'Halloran.) He is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Ruth McCann (Quirk.) Joe was cherished by his large, loving family. He leaves his three children, daughter, Christine McCann and her husband, William Parry, son, Joseph McCann, Jr. and his wife, Lisa McCann and son, Steven McCann and his wife, Kristen McCann. "Pa" adored his six grandchildren, Mia, Liam, Lilia, Colin, Claudia and Owen, who loved him back in equal measure. He is also survived by his two older brothers, Michael "Chris" McCann of Norwell, MA and John "Jack" McCann of Merrimack, NH. Joe grew up in St. Peter's Parish in Dorchester. He was an altar boy and fondly recalled youthful afternoons playing in Ronan Park. He was an accomplished candlepin bowler and collected stamps. After attending Mission High School, Joe began work at New England Telephone, where he remained employed for 45 years. Joe served in the Coast Guard Reserves and later received an associate degree in Business. Joe and his wife, Ruth, proudly raised their family in Norwood, MA. Joe loved the family house on Devon Road. He also was an avid Red Sox fan, who also enjoyed golf and cribbage in his free time. Joe spent many wonderful summer evenings with family in Gilford, NH near the lake and mountains. He will be remembered and missed. There will be a Memorial Service at St. Timothy's Parish, in Norwood, on Saturday, April 12, at 10:30 AM. In lieu of flowers, gifts may be made in Joe's name to Providence TrinityCare Hospice Foundation.
