JOY FISHER Obituary

FISHER, Joy Elaine (Goodman) Of Westborough, passed away on November 20th after a long illness. Raised in Brookline, Joy was the daughter of Harry and Ryah Goodman, Russian immigrants who moved to America in the early 1900's during the pogroms. Joy was always a woman ahead of her time, starting with her early career as a fashion model appearing in post-WWII ads. Mid-life, Joy survived a courageous battle with breast cancer. She inspired her daughter to spearhead one of the largest fundraisers for breast cancer at the time. Shoes on Sale, in partnership with the Home Shopping Network, captured celebrity and international attention for the fashion industry as the first event of its kind. To date, Shoes on Sale has raised more than $59.5m to fund breast cancer research and education. Above all else, Joy's greatest accomplishment was her family. She is survived by her sons, Jeffrey Fisher and his wife Frances, of Palm Beach, FL, and Marc Fisher and his wife Jill, of Greenwich, CT. Joy was predeceased by her daughter Jodi Fisher Horowitz, of Greenwich, CT. She is also survived by nine grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. In Joy's memory, donations may be made to the Breast Cancer Research Foundation at www.bcrf.org
