JUNE GIBBS Obituary

GIBBS, June M. June M. (Lavan) Gibbs of Marina Bay, Quincy passed away peacefully at her home of 40 years on January 29, 2024. Affectionately known as Junie and Junebug, she was born in Providence on December 7 (Pearl Harbor Day), 1938 to Joseph and Lenore (Clarke) Lavan. June was raised on the east side of Providence and attended Lincoln School for Girls, Hope High School and Boston University. She spent her childhood summers in Narrangansett where her parents had a second home and belonged to The Canonchet Club. This was her much loved home away from home, and she returned there most summers throughout her life. She loved the water, and for the last 40 years coveted her view of Boston Harbor. As a young woman, June modeled and worked for a radio station in Providence. After marrying, she settled in Newton. With her two young children at home, she started her own stenography business with a friend, JGF Court Reporting, providing services to the Mass. State Police and Middlesex DA's Office. Thereafter she joined on as an official court reporter with the state working primarily in the Suffolk Superior Court criminal session, and held that position for the remainder of her professional career. June was a frequent traveler, voracious reader, pianist, strong swimmer, tennis player and golfer, and formidable card and scrabble player. In her later years, she was very involved with rescuing cats, and leaves behind her BFF (feline) Luna. June will be remembered for her bright eyed and beautiful wide smile, intelligence, quick wit, and humor. In addition to her parents, June is predeceased by her brother Robert Lavan. June is survived by her two daughters, Robin Gibbs of Boston and Michele and her husband Jay Luna of Seattle, her brother Ronald Lavan and his two daughters of Florida. A special thank you to June's 'village,' you know who you are. A Graveside Service will be held at Lincoln Park Cemetery, 1469 Post Road, Warwick, RI, on Friday February 2, 2024 at 2:00 pm, to be followed by a memorial gathering. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the Alzheimer's Association. Stanetsky Memorial Chapels 617-232-9300 www.stanetskybrookline.com

June was a great neighbor to us at Harbourside for 22 years. The day we moved to the North Shore, she and her cat Sammy came over to say goodby to us and our cat Butch.
