Karen wasn't the dean when I was a student -- she was the assistant director of admissions, and I was lucky enough to work there as a junior. No one meant more to me as a student and as an alum than she did. No one was as wise, or sensible, or kind, or funny as she was. No one was as understanding. When I applied to law school ten years after graduating, with a great record from a masters program and a mediocre record from Bryn Mawr, Karen backed me. I knew that she had been ill some time ago, but I was not aware it had recurred, and she was the sort of person who remains so present in your life that you always think there will be another time to talk. I'm so sorry she's gone.
