KEVIN GIBLIN Obituary

GIBLIN, Kevin Real Estate Developer It is with deep and profound sadness that we say goodbye to Kevin Giblin, 66, who passed away in his home in Southborough, Massachusetts on April 3, 2017 surrounded by his loving family. Kevin was born in Marlborough, MA on November 8, 1950, the son of late James Giblin and Mary Taylor and brother to Gayle Anderson. Kevin attended schools in both Westborough and Northborough and graduated from Algonquin High School where he met the love of his life, Catherine Cote, at the age of 16. Upon graduation, he enlisted in United States Marine Corps and quickly rose in rank and became the leader of his platoon. As Honor Guard, he led his graduating class and fulfilled his military duties with pride and strength. He married his love on November 18, 1972 and began his lifelong journey as husband, father, grandfather and real estate developer, mentor and friend. From humble beginnings, Kevin started Brendon Homes with a dream of providing exceptional craftsmanship and customer service. Through tumultuous times, he persevered and 40 years later, Brendon Homes is both recognized regionally and nationally with numerous industry awards and home owner testimonials. Behind the scenes, Kevin's influence and that of Brendon Homes reached far beyond the buildings and homes he built. He had an innate mission to help those in need and worked tirelessly to provide food, shelter, clothing, rehabilitation services, and education through numerous organizations, such as Spectrum Health Systems, 200 Foundation, Hoops For Homework, One Mission, and the Iris Eagan Scholarship Foundation. Prominent, dynamic, driven, and influential, his crowning "achievement" was his close, intimate family. He is survived by his devoted wife, Catherine, his daughter, Kristyn, his son-in-law, Frank, son, Brendon, and daughter-in-law, Robin. His five treasured grandchildren, Frankie, Kenley, Stella, Brody and Jack, will forever remember their special, funny, affectionate Papa Gibba. Calling hours will be held Thursday, April 6, 2017 from 4-8 p.m. at Saint Rose of Lima Church, 244 W. Main Street, Northborough, Massachusetts. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10 a.m. on Friday, April 7, 2017 at Saint Rose of Lima Church followed by a burial with Military presence at Howard Street Cemetery, Northborough. Hays Funeral Home, 56 Main Street, NORTHBOROUGH is honored to be assisting the Giblin Family with arrangements. Brendon and family, I only knew Kevin for a brief time, but I knew instantly he was my kind of guy. I bet that happened a lot. His presence was large but it was dwarfed by his humility and kindness. A good man, someone to be proud of. God Bless.

A life well lived - husband-friend-father-veteran - but cut too short. An inspiration to me, Kevin encouraged me throughout my political career and always always was there for me which meant his friends & family too! He was so passionate about his friendships, his family & his community. I saved his messages to just hear the energy in his voice. He was one special person, and I was blessed to know him.

Kevin- you and your lovely wife Cathy gave me my first and generous babysitting job! While I was most loving to your "babies" at the time (circa 1978)...I was always sound asleep when you arrived home! Oops! Kevin, you had a personality larger than life; and you certainly knew how to light up a room! I thank you for your service in the military; the gorgeous homes that you built; and the help you gave to those struggling in recovery from addiction. My father Fran Quinn revered you...you actually shared some of the same positive attributes. I am ceetain that the two of you will share a few laughs "upstairs". Rest peacefully Kevin. You were one of the good guys, and there is no doubt that you lived your life to the fullest! Fondly, MaryAnn Quinn Kavanagh

Back in time, I played with Kevin and his son in a 3 day tournament at the International in Bolton. We were in the same flight, as competitors, more often than not. Two things stand out-----his competitiveness and most importantly, his incredible sense of humor. Kevin Giblin wanted to make me ,laugh, and my partner as well. He succeeded in a big way. His uncanny ability to make people laugh is/was a gift.....it gave him pleasure, and others that surrounded him.
To describe him as a "class clown" would be demeaning. I never felt that for a second. But I did laugh for two or three hours during our match which in that environment seemed much more important than who won or who lost.
Which is how it should be.
And was.

Kevin was larger than life, generous and caring to his friends, fun loving, family oriented, a self-made man. My first memories of Kevin's "devil-may-care" attitude goes way back to his sophomore year. Someone wagered $5 if Gib would shave his head, and he did! Many a class reunion was orchestrated by this guy. He never forgot his roots but soared effortlessly into politics, philanthropy, Real Estate Development and so much more. My God, Gibba, you will be missed. My deepest condolences to Cathy and her family. She was the perfect complement to this giant of a man.
