KEVIN MCQUAID Obituary

McQUAID, Kevin M. Of Manchester-by-the-Sea, died in the early morning of June 10, 2023, after a long, valiant battle against cancer. His wife and daughter were by his side. Kevin was born to John and Mary McQuaid on January 16, 1945, in Cambridge, MA, and raised in Bedford, MA. Kevin married his wife, Linda née Zilonis, in 1978. Kevin was the second-generation owner of Anderson & McQuaid in Cambridge, MA, where he had worked for six decades, including fifty years alongside Linda. He was proud of his business, customers, and above all his employees. He enjoyed fishing, classic cars, and the highs and lows of Boston sports. Kevin is survived by his wife Linda; daughter Kate; sister Sheila Torigian; brother Paul McQuaid; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents; and his brothers, Brian and John. Visitation will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., BEDFORD, on Thursday, June 15th, from 3:00-6:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in his memory to Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284 or via jimmyfund.org/gift.

Linda and Kate,
We are sad to hear about the Kevin's passing. He gave my husband Mike his first real job. The knowledge and work ethic that he obtained from Kevin and working at Anderson McQuaid, allowed us to marry, raise our family and run our own successful business and we are grateful. Mike still talks fondly of his days at Anderson McQuaid. Kevin was a great man and will be missed. Your family is in our thoughts at this difficult time.

You were Ken Jackson’s best friend from long long ago. My friend too. I loved to hear you two reminisce and hear that ornery laugh from you.
I pray your reunion has been a joy filled one in Heaven.
You will be missed here though greatly.

Kevin is my friend. Kevin’s laugh is infectious and always filled me with a moment of joy. We shared much time together as we worked our way to adulthood and only recently arrived. Kevin fills me with a stream of emotions and memories, they are only because he was part of my life. Kevin was blessed by the women in his life, his mom Mary dotted over her boy, Linda stood alongside as a faithful and loving wife but also as a trusted, valued and knowledgeable business partner and Kate gave Kevin a daughter’s love and all the emotion a father can experience in that special relationship. Yes, Kevin is my friend, I miss him.

How many of us have watched in wonder, how Anderson McQuaid, and their trajectory over the decades, all of the incredible home shows, their progress, cutting knives by hand, and then the purchase of not one, but two of the four way, shaper machines, the fire that could’ve taken anybody else completely out of business but somehow Kevin and his family and the entire crew manage to rise from the ashes, and create the Giant wood machine that we all love to visit. Their insight and perseverance and dedication is all about them. Boston would not be the place it is now without them. A sad day with Kevin‘s passing, and his brother, John few months back. When I was a young contractor, i needed a house full of molding, and I must’ve underbid the job and Kevin helped me out. I was able to finish the job. I will never forget him

Not only was Kevin a great boss but also a friend. He made sure you were always working but joked and laughed in the process, sometimes lol. He was always whistling so we knew when he was coming. I couldn´t have asked to work for a better person. I will certainly miss the conversations we had going. Rest in peace friend.

Dear Linda and Kate. Kevin and both of you provided genuine kindness, friendship and support to my cousin Gerard Teeven in a time of need by opening you hearts and your home to him. On behalf of the Lane family, we express our gratitude for that thoughtful kindness and heartfelt sympathy for your loss of Kevin.

In the short time we’ve known him, we found Kevin to be a humble and gracious person who made you feel welcomed in his company. I loved to chat with him, in particular, about the woes of the Patriots before and after Belichick ran the GOAT out of town.
