Whoever said in time it will get better never lost a brother, a friend , that is truly amazing. A person who told you everyday he loved you and was there for you always. Always. He cared so deeply for people, his family and friends. He laughed and loved with such fierce passion in was contagious. I miss him every day. Cry a bit less but those of us that are lucky enough to call him family will never be the same. He is my hero. My big brother and one of my best friends. Almost two years later and my heart is still healing. But I feel his presence all the time. It helps.

Mark was truly heaven on earth. To know him was to love him. He had the uncanny ability to make everybody and I mean everybody to feel welcome and appreciated. He was special. You can't say that about a lot of people. A month has almost passed, and I still think of him.He will never be forgotten, that I am sure of. He was the epitome of a witty, good, generous and most of all kind individual.Rest in peace my friend. You left quite a legacy. There are not many people that can say that. Make them laugh Mark, you had a gift for it.

Words cannot express my sorrow at hearing of Mark's death. May the angels welcome him with open arms and may God give you all, especially you, Maureen, the strength to continue on with all the cherished memories of him.

Mark was one of the most authentic, ethical human beings I ever met. From a young age, he always asked, "What is the right thing to do?" He was constantly protecting the underdog. He protected me, watched over me, and was forever saying "Are you having fun?" His priority was the happiness of others. Mark possessed a special childlike sensibility. He was the epitome of the New Testament scripture, "Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these" (Matthew 19:14). I know that Mark entered that kingdom quickly, stepping aside to let others pass first or offer a helping hand. He is with his father and all of his other relatives--smiling, laughing, joking, asking everyone present, "Are you having fun?" And at the same time, he is watching over all of us, the living, ready to come to our aid at any moment. I hear his voice in silence as easily as I do among a crowd, "What's up, pal," he says. "I love you. I will always be there for you. No matter what. And I will protect you." So I will pray to him, and know that he is beside me and all of our family and friends. He is making them all laugh in heaven, as he made us all laugh on earth. "Are you having fun?" he is saying. And most certainly, in Mark's presence, they are.

My deepest sympathies to the Mulhern family in this most difficult time. Although I've not see Mark in many years, I have very fond memories of our time at BLS'79. I particularly remember our time running indoor track together (along with brother Mike) under Coach Irons.
