LUCIO CAMILLI Obituary

CAMILLI, Lucio "Lou" Age 74, passed away suddenly, on June 17, 2025. Lou was born in Pietrafitta, Italy on April 24, 1951. He immigrated with his family to Montreal, Canada when he was 13 years old. After having visited relatives in the Boston area, his family decided to move to the United States where they settled in Newton, Massachusetts. He began his career in the U.S. working at Barry Controls. A few years passed, when he had the opportunity to purchase and run the Kirby Vacuum cleaner business in Nonantum, where he sold, repaired and rebuilt vacuums. A few years later he decided it was time to try something new. He then began his new career learning the building trades that included electrical, carpentry and masonry. It was his knowledge of masonry that led him to a position with the Department of Public Works in Newton, where he worked until his retirement. During his time in Newton, he held several positions, the last as Superintendent of Environmental Affairs. His love of carpentry led him to his favorite hobby of creating and building different projects. He was a talented craftsman. He was a competitive bowler and bocce player. As a member of the Sons of Italy in Watertown, he joined the Bocce League. With great pride, he took charge of this league by organizing, maintaining the courts, arranging the Teams and participating in many tournaments throughout the area, where the Team secured first place several times. Lou was predeceased by his parents, Carmelo and Teresa (Visco) Camilli. He leaves behind his brothers, Elio Camilli (Maria) of Newton, Domenic Camilli of Holliston; and his sister, Maria Paone (Eric) of North Chatham, Cape Cod. He also leaves behind his longtime companion of 35 years Janet Prague of Watertown. He was adored by his seven nieces and nephews: Daniela MacKinnon, Eric Paone, Jr., Marisa Camilli, Crystal Tanguay, Jacklyn Paone, Lindsey Ward and Adam Camilli; as well as several great-nieces and great-nephews and many cousins. Visiting Hours will be held at the Magni Funeral Home, at 365 Watertown St., in NEWTON, on Monday, June 30, 2025, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm. The family kindly requests no flowers. If you wish to honor Lou's memory, a donation to the charity of your choice will be appreciated. Burial will be private. Magni Funeral Home, Newton www.magnifuneralhome.com

I had the pleasure of working with Lou for many years in Newton. While he didn't work with me directly, his brother Elio did. I interacted with Lou frequently, and he was always happy and willing to help out. He will be missed.
