LUCY SCHOEFF Obituary

SCHOEFF, Lucy Lucy Schoeff died on Saturday, February 18, 2023, a week, and a half shy of her 95th birthday. Mickey, her love of 73 years, died a little more than a year earlier. Lucy taught her daughters, grandchildren, and countless others, about love, loyalty, and commitment. She and Mickey welcomed everyone into their home, their campsite, and into their family. Lucy, born just before the Great Depression, grew up in poverty. She and her sister, Alice, helped each other through the hard times, were best friends, had daily phone calls, and raised their families together. Lucy defied her own pessimistic predictions and had an amazingly successful 71-year marriage with "her" Mickey. The two of them inspired so many with their long and enduring love. Lucy told wonderful, and sometimes heartbreaking, stories about growing up in Brooklyn, her work as a "farmerette" during World War II, her early political activism in Civil Rights (through which she met Mickey), and the characters in her family. Saying Lucy was an avid fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers would be understating that passion. She also loved Paul Robeson, Woody Guthrie, Pete Seeger, Tanglewood, New York off-Broadway theater, and summer stock. She and Mickey would make fast friends, often across generations, everywhere they put down their bags for even a minute. Most of all, Lucy loved her family, even when she was getting in a good argument. Among her favorite things was when her daughters and grandchildren would come into the house and go straight to the refrigerator to scrounge and graze. Lucy is survived by her three daughters, Lynn Schoeff, Amy Schoeff, and Debbie Schoeff-Comenitz; son-in-law, Mark Friedman; seven grandchildren, Erika Grace, Megan Kudrolli, Matthew Comenitz, Heather Friedman, Hope Friedman, Corey Comenitz, and Cass Friedman; three great-grandsons, Dylan, Rohin, and Alex. In addition to her immediate and extended family, Lucy has loved and been loved by many honorary children and grandchildren, and by more friends than can be counted. Lucy and Mickey's ashes will be interred together at Sharon Memorial Park on May 7, 2023. Family and friends will gather to remember them with food and stories (so many stories), on May 6th and 7th. Lucy's arrangements have been entrusted to the care of the Norton Funeral Home, FRAMINGHAM. To leave a message of condolence or to sign the online guestbook, please visit www.nortonfuneralhome.com

Lynn, Sorry to read about your mom, who appeared to be quite an engaging woman. I had not heard the term, farmerette before... Hope you are doing well otherwise and that you are still curling. Fondly, Al.
