SARDONE, Marianne Age 75, passed away peacefully on November 23, 2023, after a long battle with Alzheimer's disease.
Born in Washington, D.C. on December 6, 1947, Marianne would spend her entire life proudly extolling the virtues of the city of her birth. She moved to Boston in high school and attended St. Claire's in West Roxbury, where she forged lifelong connections, especially with her oldest and closest friend, Dorothy Driscoll. Marianne later settled and raised her family in Medford with her late husband, Leo Louis Sardone. Marianne was a fierce advocate for her two sons, Lee and Michael, and she devoted her life to them. Her proudest moments were their accomplishments, particularly their graduation from St. Sebastian's School and Villanova and Duke, respectively.
Once her boys were grown, Marianne took a job as an administrative assistant at Polaroid Corporation in Cambridge and was soon "running the place" (her words). She found her mission while working tirelessly on behalf of Polaroid on causes like the Jimmy Fund and got enormous satisfaction in her new role. She worked for Polaroid up until their closing and remained close with many of her coworkers throughout the years.
After her retirement, Marianne finally moved back to the city of her birth with her faithful canine companion, Hooligan. She could not have been happier to be back in D.C. Marianne's mother, Martha, also suffered from Alzheimer's and Marianne became her dedicated caretaker and advocate. This role inspired Marianne to live life to the very fullest and enjoy every moment she had. She certainly took this expression to heart and was a major force during her lifetime - as all that knew her would agree. Her time in D.C. was marked by visits to her beloved "O" Mansion, lively meetings at the Woman's National Democratic Club, her work on Bill Clinton's campaigns, and her many travels, which included a trip to China for The Children's Defense Fund (where she eventually learned to use chopsticks). But her happiest moments were showing her grandchildren around the city she loved. They will always remember their special, solo trips to see Grandi and spending time with her in a place that was so special to her.
During her later years, Marianne moved back to Boston to be close to her family and especially her grandchildren. Grandi loved her days at the Harbor Towers and later, in Winchester. As Alzheimer's began to take it's toll she was lovingly surrounded by a community who kept her safe and continued to make her smile.
She is survived by her loving son, Lee Sardone and his wife Karen of Winchester, MA; her loving son Michael Sardone and his wife Jennifer of Smyrna, GA; and her adored grandchildren, Kate, Lily, Luke, and Cameron Sardone. She was predeceased by her parents and her husband.
For everyone she touched, or was ever in her presence, Marianne was unforgettable. Her boldness, love of life, and quick laughter will always be remembered.
