My favorite auntie and I shared an incredible trip to Switzerland--beginning in Geneva where we were able to conduct some in-depth family history about her aunt who lived in Geneva in the 20's as an advocate for women and children's rights around the world. Two amazing women ahead of their time! We then headed to a tiny Swiss town high in the alps were we lived in a small chalet behind our host family's large chalet. This family's warm hospitality made for an extra special experience. Our first day hiking involved what turned out to be an 18 mile marathon. My auntie Mary was a trooper, taking it all in stride--literally! We met a lovely woman from Basel who invited us to join her in her first hike of the season on "Grandmother's Walk" She turned out to be an expert in Alpen flowers which were peeking their heads through the crusted snow. She shared one of her hiking poles with Mary as I didn't want her to injure her two new hips! Our new friend then took us to the largest waterfall inside a mountain in Europe. What an experience. What a privilege to share a slice of her wonderful life. I miss her so! With love from your Nichte!

Miss Hathaway was my HS. English teacher at SLRHS for 3 yrs- a brilliant and dedicated teacher- I learned more about the works of Shakespere( her passion) and more about grammar and diagramming sentences and she somehow made both fancinating to a very young and not that interested 15 yr old mind- may she Rest In Peace having lived an extraordinary and giving life.
