Matilda Mitsakos Obituary

MITSAKOS, Matilda Dana Of Weston, MA, age 81, died peacefully at home, on February 22, 2026. The wife of the late Peter L. Mitsakos; she is survived by Ann Mitsakos Bezzerides and her husband, Vassilios Bezzerides of Brookline, MA, William Peter Mitsakos and his wife, Jenifer Lin Mitsakos of Whitefish, MT and Christina Mitsakos Kieffer and her husband, Isaac Kieffer of Annandale, VA; and seven adoring grandchildren, Nicholas, Peter and Elias Bezzerides, Luke and Lydia Kieffer, and Linden and Spiro Mitsakos. The middle of five children, she was the daughter of the late Howard Hinkley Dana and Ann Clifford Dana; and is survived by her brother, Hon. Howard Dana and his wife, Susan Brown Dana of Scarborough, Maine; and three sisters, Katharine Dana Nelson of Falmouth, Maine, Margaret Dana Webster and her husband, Peter Webster of South Portland, Maine and Molly Dana Stanley and her husband, Jon Stanley of Cape Elizabeth, ME. Tilda graduated as valedictorian of her class at Barrington High School in Rhode Island, then went on to graduate from Smith College in 1966, where she was a proud member of Parsons House. She then spent time living in France and taught French at the Lexington and Concord Public Schools, before raising her children. She was the best mother and grandmother anyone could ever ask for, always present, fun-loving, enthusiastic, a great listener, and fierce Scrabble competitor. She was a woman of deep and abiding faith, and was invested in their church, St. Demetrios in Weston, teaching Sunday school, active in the Prayer Shawl Ministry and her wonderful prayer group, as well as community efforts: inner-city youth education work, ESL tutoring, and Bible Study Fellowship. She adored summertime and the community of Cushings Island, Maine. She was and will continue to be an example of unabashed love, support, encouragement, and delightful humor. May her memory be eternal! Visiting Hours will occur at George F. Doherty & Sons Funeral Home, 477 Washington St., WELLESLEY, Sunday, March 1, from 1 to 4 p.m. Her Funeral will take place on Monday, March 2, at 11:00 a.m., at St. Demetrios Greek Orthodox Church in Weston, MA. The Interment will be in Linwood Cemetery, Weston. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to St. Demetrios Church or the CrossRoad Institute, 955 Massachusetts Ave., Unit 406, Cambridge, MA 02139. Tilda was a cherished friend at St. Demetrios Church. I´ve known Peter & Tilda for over 40 years, mostly with Bible Study and prayer groups. Always so humble and kind. I´m sorry I was unable to pay my respects in person as I have been away. A will miss her beautiful smile.
May her memory be eternal!

Memory Eternal!

Judy Sawyer

February 27, 2026

It is with fond childhood memories that I remember Tilda from our summers on Cushings Island. That was 70+ years ago but Tilda and her siblings were an important part of my life. She was a joy to know! The photo is of Tilda's sister, Kathy and brother, Howdy and me and our mothers on the Big Beach at Cushings in the early 1940's. Sorry, Tilda wasn't born yet so I don't have a photo of her during that chapter of my life. :)
