Matthew Stephen Terr Winer

Of Hanover, NH, at 47, May 21, 2005. Dr. Winer was born in Boston, and graduated from Wayland High School, Yale University, and Boston University School of Medicine. After training in alternative psychiatric therapies, including meditative techniques with Dr. Herbert Benson in Boston, Dr. Winer took Residencies in Psychiatry at Dartmouth and became affiliated with the Mary Hitchcock Medical Center. He worked in health care clinics serving the Upper Valley area of New Hampshire and Vermont and engaged in private practice. Known as a sensitive and caring physician, he treated patients by support and psychopharmacologic medicines. He loved classical music, and was a skilled pianist specializing in Bach, Beethoven, and Debussy. He spoke French fluently, and enjoyed skiing in the French Alps. He cherished his time at home with his family, sharing his love of nature and gardening. Early in his marriage in the course of a year he circled the globe with his wife, Margaret. Dr. Winer's warmth, sensitivity, loyalty and dry humor were the basis for many long term friendships throughout his life, including his closeness to members of the Winer, Sheehan and Picchi families. In recent years his connection to a group of men in the Hanover region became an important part of his life. He is survived by his wife Margaret Sheehan and his daughter Molly Elizabeth Joy Winer of Hanover, as well as his parents, Bertram and Mimi Winer of Wayland, MA, and his brothers, Jonathan Winer of Bethesda, MD, and Joshua Winer of Waltham, MA. A private Graveside Funeral will be held at the Pine Knoll Cemetery in Hanover on May 28 at 2 pm. An open Memorial Service will be held immediately thereafter at the Augustus Saint Gaudens Historic Site in Cornish, NH. The family has requested, that in lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Matthew Winer Special Needs Trust, c/o Joshua Winer, at 144 Moody Street, Building #18, Waltham, MA 02453, which will be used for the educational needs of Dr. Winer's daughter, Molly.
