Max Coniglio Obituary

33 of Cambridge, artist, animator, filmmaker, photographer with an acute sense of life's absurdities, died at his home in Cambridge on Friday, February 9th, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. Max was born in Naples, Italy and came to Cambridge as a young boy. He went to schools in Italy and Cambridge and received a BFA from Museum School, Boston. His wonderful talents and humor will be sorely missed. He is survived by his parents, Antonio and Maire, by his sister, Gabriella, and extended family in Italy and Scotland. A remembrance service will be held at Cambridge Friends Meeting House, 5 Longfellow Park, Cambridge on Saturday, February 17th from 3pm-4:30pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made for the preservation and continuation of Max's life's work at the Cambridge Trust Company (Cambridge Trust Company, 1720 Mass Ave, Cambridge, MA 02138, c/o The Account of "Max Coniglio").

I recently found two VHS tapes that Max had sent me probably around the early 2000s when I had small animation studio. Although we never met his work was full of humour and quite memorable. One was his demo reel from 1998 and another was a film in progression called the Daily Planner from 2002. From the many wonderful tributes that I have read, I wish that I had met been able to hire him back in the day. I will send the tapes to the trust that was set up for his work listed in the obituary. My Condolences go out to all who knew him.

Max-
I think of you everyday, especially around the streets and back lots we grew up in.
Playing between fences and lifting rocks or storming imagined fortresses together. Creating elaborate backstories for neighbors we never met. You and Nat were my partners in play...You were always a window for me into myself - you helped me see things that were absurd in my life or in the world we both lived in. Thank you for being a part of my life Max, I hope you know how much you meant.
I love you and miss you forever-
Jared

I will miss you every remaining day I have left on this Earth, Max. You were such a dear companion to me and I will struggle to get over your physical absense. You are with me in every experience I have. Thank you for giving me such insight. Thank you Maire and Antonio and Gabriella for your bravery and sensitivity. I hope we continue to be neighbors in life.

To the Coniglio family-
I am shocked and very saddened to hear of Max's passing. I worked with him at Tom Snyder/Soup2Nuts and always admired his sense of humor and incredible talent. In the early days of the studio we spent many enjoyable hours competing in ping pong tournaments. Later when Max had moved onto other things it was a treat to speak with him whenever he came into the studio for freelance assignments. My condolences.
