MEREDITH WALSH Obituary

WALSH, Meredith Eaton Passed away peacefully, on the morning of July 28, 2025. Born in Boston on January 7, 1946, Meredith grew up in Hingham, MA, the beloved daughter of S. Edward and Dorothy Eaton, and one of four siblings. An avid sailing enthusiast from a young age, Meredith won several regattas, including the Hingham Yacht Club Championship. She enjoyed a well-rounded childhood and adolescence, participating in multiple sports at Hingham High School and performing with the school orchestra and chorus. Music was a lifelong passion, and she cherished her involvement in many community Gilbert & Sullivan productions, alongside her family. During her formative years, Meredith was an integral part of "The Green Bomber Gang," a spirited neighborhood group of close friends. She attended Smith College, where she majored in Music. After graduating, she trained as a computer programmer at John Hancock, which launched a distinguished 34-year career at MIT. Meredith rose to become the Associate Director of Admission for IT before retiring. She also earned a Master's degree in Nutrition from Boston University. In 1984, Meredith married the love of her life, Tim Walsh and together, they raised two wonderful children, Maura and Brennan, living in Newton, MA, Dallas, TX and Marion, MA. Meredith deeply valued the friendships she cultivated throughout her life, maintaining close bonds with friends old and new. She was always ready to share a laugh, enjoy a walk, or engage in lively political discussions with loved ones. After retiring to Providence, Rhode Island, Meredith continued to nurture her love for music, singing with local choruses and becoming especially involved with the gospel choir, RPM Voices of Rhode Island. She greatly enjoyed traveling, particularly treasured vacations in Vieques, Puerto Rico, and at Newfound Lake with her husband. Meredith led an active, vibrant life; she loved hiking, biking, swimming, and new adventures. She was a woman of great intellect who valued learning and broadening her horizons until the end of her life. Whether that meant overcoming a fear of public speaking or becoming an amateur detective, her natural curiosity and drive were felt by all she came into contact with. She is survived by her two children, Maura McGuinness and her husband, Mike, and Brennan Walsh and his wife, Melina; and her four grandsons, Macklin McGuinness, Finn McGuinness, Oscar Walsh, and Ciaran Walsh. Also surviving are siblings, Deborah Keeney and Timothy Eaton; stepsister, Trish Waddleton; and stepmother, Teri Eaton; and by many friends and colleagues whose lives she touched. She was predeceased by her husband, F. Timothy Walsh; and her brother, Christopher Eaton. Meredith will be remembered for her distinctive, infectious laugh and as a respected professional, loving mother, devoted grandmother, cherished wife, and treasured friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. A Celebration of Life will be held at the Hingham Yacht Club on October 19, at 12pm. All are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the McCauley House in Providence or to the F. Timothy Walsh Scholarship Fund at Tabor Academy.
