MICHAEL DECOSTE Obituary

DeCOSTE, Michael D. On January 14, 2013 after a long illness. He was the beloved son of David G. DeCoste and the late Sharon Hanley-DeCoste of Plymouth. He also leaves his loving Sister Amy (DeCoste) Miller and her husband Eric of Bethesda, Maryland. Michael was the proud and loving father of Ashley (DeCoste) Wise, and her husband John of Sterling, VA. And Deven of Plymouth and Burlington, VT. He is also survived by his aunt, Maureen, of New Hampshire, and two great aunts, Helen Hanley of Westwood, and Margaret Hanley of Norwell. He also leaves a loving extended family of cousins. Michael is survived by his godparents, Theresa and Robert Dickie of Plymouth. Michael was the grandson of the late Barbara and Thomas F. Hanley, Jr. and the late Evelyn and Geoffrey H. DeCoste, all of Weymouth. He was predeceased by his maternal uncle, Paul, of Weymouth. Born in Weymouth in 1967, he moved to Plymouth as an infant. He was a 1985 graduate of Cape Cod Technical High School in Brewster. A licensed electrician, Michael worked for several Plymouth companies, most recently Professional Pump and Greenwood Alarm. An accomplished cook, nothing brought him greater joy than preparing a wonderful meal for his family. He enjoyed large family gatherings, most especially Christmas and Easter. Usually hosted by his parents, these celebrations featured several traditions shared with his father's cousins and their children. He also loved the annual Hanley family reunion, and enjoyed catching up with his mother's aunts, uncles, cousins and their children. These Irish reunions were marked with laughter, joy, the re-telling of wonderful memories, and the making of new ones. Michael was a certified Scuba diver, taking several diving trips to Mexico. He also enjoyed diving out of Plymouth. Michael was a big fan of the Boston sports teams, most notably the Patriots and Red Sox, attending games when he could, watching on television when he could not. David, Amy and Eric, Ashley , John and Deven will receive family and friends on Thursday January 24th from 11:00 -12:00pm with a Memorial service at noon in the Cartmell Funeral Home 150 Court St. PLYMOUTH. In keeping with Michael's wishes, his family requests in lieu of flowers memorial donations be made to the Christ Church Food Pantry or Christ Church Overnights for Hospitality. Nothing would have pleased Michael more than knowing his death helped feed the hungry and shelter the homeless, causes close to his heart.
