Michael J. "Mike" Leahy

Michael Leahy Obituary

Of Salem, formerly of Marblehead, Oct. 20, in the Lahey Clinic, Burlington after a brief illness; age 70. Husband of the late Anne J. (McIntyre) Leahy. Born in Salem, the son of the late James B. and Eleanor E. (Sutherland) Leahy. He was educated in St. James Grammar School and was graduated from Salem High School in the class of 1951. Mr. Leahy then entered the United States Navy serving more than three years during the Korean Conflict with duty assignment overseas. Following his discharge, he was employed by New England Telephone and Telegraph for over 30 years until his retirement. An avid golfer and model ship builder, he enjoyed his family and friends and particularly enjoyed lively discussion and debate. Mr. Leahy is survived by six children, James M. and his wife Noreen Leahy of Lynbrook, New York, Patrick J. and his wife Mary Leahy of Phoenix Arizona, Thomas D. and his wife Pam Leahy of Danvers, Terrence P. and his wife Lisa Leahy of North Attleboro, MA, Brendan S. and his wife Jennifer Leahy of Athens, Georgia and Judy M. Leahy of Charlotte, North Carolina; 13 grandchildren: Joseph, Meghan, Michael, Bridget Erin, Mary, Anne, James, Amanda, Daniel, Brian, Sean and Brendan; his life partner Joan Gagnon of Salem and her children Janet Bryson of Norton and Rick Gagnon of Taunton and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister Barbara Clemence. Funeral Tues. at 10:15 AM from the Murphy Funeral Home, 85 Federal St., (cor. of North St.), SALEM, to be followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:00 AM in Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Marblehead. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM. Interment will be in Waterside Cemetery, Marblehead. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Anne Leahy Fund, Hospice of the North Shore, 10 Elm St., Danvers, MA 01923 or St. John's Preparatory School, Memorial and Tribute Giving Program Office for Institutional Advancement, 72 Spring St., Danvers, MA 01923.
