MICHAEL GEORGE POWELL

POWELL, Michael George Age 89, formerly of Swampscott, died on March 23, 2026, after a short illness. He is survived by his wife, Joyce Powell. Michael was born and raised in Somerville, MA, the son of the late Frank and Victoria Powell. Michael "Mickey" proudly served two years in the U.S. Army in Alaska, as a sharpshooter/ski patrol near the Russian border. After leaving the military, Mickey spent most of his career in Banking and Finance. He spent 20 years as Branch Manager at Public Finance Co. of Lynn, MA and as a Vice President/Loan Officer primarily at the former Lynn Institution for Savings and Eastern Bank when they merged. He had a lifelong passion for golf, fishing and playing pool, which included a blissful 20 years of retirement at Vanderbilt Country Club in Naples, Florida, before returning to Massachusetts. He enjoyed fishing out of Swampscott and Wellfleet, MA during Striper season. He spent his lifetime playing pool, winning many tournaments. He is survived by his three children with his first wife, Rita; Michelle Dunbar of Chatham, Christopher Powell and his wife, Mary Ellen of Mystic, CT and Philip Powell and his wife, Sally of Swampscott; as well as his wife, Joyce Powell; and her children, John G. Reddy, III, Jason C. Reddy, Jeremy W. Reddy and Jeffrey F. Reddy; grandchildren, Roy Dunbar, Jillian Losik (Kyle), Ryan Powell (Hanna), Andrew Powell (Julia) Solina Powell and Anthony Powell; great-granddaughters, Elizabeth and Adeline Losik; as well as Joyce's many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister, Dorothy Freites (Edward). He was predeceased by his first wife, Rita; his brother, Frank Powell, Jr.; his sister, Caroline Palmucci; and his parents, Frank and Victoria Powell. Visiting Hours: Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend Visiting Hours from 4 PM to 8 PM, on Monday, March 30, 2026, at Solimine Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rt. 129), LYNN. A Funeral Mass will take place at 10:00 AM, on Tuesday, March 31, 2026, at St. John the Evangelist, 174 Humphrey St., Swampscott. Burial will follow at Swampscott Cemetery.
