MYLES HUNTINGTON Obituary

HUNTINGTON, Myles Dana With deepest sorrow we share the passing of Myles on March 30th at his home in Mashpee. He was 91. Myles was born on August 19, 1927, the son of Dana Huntington and Bernice Huntington, and grew up in Framingham along with his brother Charles. He graduated from Philips Exeter Academy, class of 1945, and Harvard College, class of 1950. At Exeter and Harvard he excelled in sports, leading the baseball and hockey teams of both institutions as Captain.

After graduating from Harvard, he coached the Harvard Freshman Hockey Team for two years and played semi-pro baseball and hockey into his thirties. An excellent coach, Myles was instrumental in the careers of numerous successful athletes, including Billy Cleary of U.S. Olympic Hockey Team fame. He also introduced a new generation to hockey as the Founder and President of Franklin's Youth Hockey League. Myles made countless life-long friends through sports and was an avid sports fan all his life.

Myles and Mary, his beloved wife of 62 years, lived in Franklin more than three decades, where they lovingly restored their antique home and generously shared it with friends and family. He was an avid gardener, tending to his perfect tomatoes while warding off pesky groundhogs. One of his many pleasures was Mary's amazing cooking which he adored. Myles worked for over 40 years in sales at Dennison Manufacturing before retiring to the Cape, where he and Mary built their idyllic home surrounded by ponds, marshes, ducks, and osprey.

A staunch Democrat with keen insights into politics and current events, Myles was sharp as a tack and always up for engaging and meaningful conversation. He loved animals and music, had a wonderful sense of humor, and was especially adept at working with figures even into his nineties.

Above all, Myles was as friendly, kind, and compassionate as a person could be. In return, he was favored with innumerable friends throughout his long life, all of whom agree that he was one in a million. Myles is survived by his wife Mary; three children, Martha, Kate, and Myles; and three grandchildren Immogen, Sam, and Emma, whom he cherished with all his heart. We will be forever grateful for his unfailing love, encouragement, and support. We are truly blessed to have sharedour lives with him.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:00am on April 13, at St. Anthony's Church, 167 East Falmouth Highway (Rte 28), East Falmouth, with a receiving line immediately after mass. We then welcome all to join us for a luncheon at Soprano's in Falmouth Heights where we'll celebrate Papa's life, looking out over blue waters to the Vineyard, a place of so many happy times and wonderful memories.

Donations may be made in memory of Myles to the International Fund for Animal Welfare, 290 Summer Street, Yarmouth Port, MA 02675, or Clark Cancer Center, 90 Ter Heun Drive, Falmouth MA 02540. For online guestbook and directions please visit:
