PAUL POIRIER Obituary

POIRIER, Paul L. Passed away on June 18, 2018 with his loving family present. Paul's wonderful 93 years were graced by a continued presence of honor and commitment for his community, his country, and his family. He will be missed by all who loved him. Paul was born in Somerville, Massachusetts on January 10, 1925. He lived through the Depression and like the best of his generation joined to serve his country in the Navy in 1943. He signed up for combat duty and was stationed by the end of the war on the USS Fall River as a pharmacist mate. He signed on for as much education as he could in the Navy and continued on to complete his Bachelor's Degree at Boston University and his Master's Degree in education at Boston College. A committed worker for the US government all his adult life, he worked for the post office, and then the Social Security Administration where he became the New England Regional Administrator for Medicare. He loved speaking to community groups and Rotary clubs introducing them to this important new public benefit that serves us still. He was predeceased by his loving wife Mary (O'Brien) Poirier of 68 years. A longtime resident of Belmont, he leaves his three daughters: Nancy Poirier & her wife Karen Kiss of California, Jeanne Bentley & her husband Thomas of Gloucester and Maureen Poirier of Dedham . He leaves three grandchildren Thomasin Bentley-Rau, Bronwyn Bentley and James Bentley. He was the brother of the late Lawrence Poirier, Helen Daley, Eileen Blades & Lorraine Buker. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Stanton Funeral Home, 786 Mt. Auburn St. (Rt.16), WATERTOWN on Saturday at 8 A.M. Funeral Mass in St. Joseph Church, Common St. Belmont at 9 A.M. Interment Cambridge Cemetery. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Visiting hours Friday 4-7 P.M. In lieu of flowers, contributions in Paul's memory to the Grace Center Inc., P.O. Box 135 Gloucester, MA 01931-0135 would be appreciated.

Paris and Karen, thinking of you both today... Paris, your father sounded like an amazing man who raised an incredible daughter(s) and served his country well - can't really ask for more than that! May we all be as fortunate to live such a full life. Peace be with him and your entire family. Marney.

A candle is a wonderful symbol of presence.
May this candle be a sign of my prayerful support. No matter the age of a person the loss of a parent is never easy
