PAUL SKLAR Obituary

SKLAR, Paul Martin Passed peacefully on the morning of May 6, surrounded by his family, and listening to his favorite music; he was 84. Paul was immediately smitten with his high school sweetheart, Carolyn (Tanzer) Sklar, who soon became his adoring wife. They married in 1960 and raised three daughters in Newton, MA, with joyous summers spent with the family at Nantasket Beach. Paul was loved and respected by all who knew him, being a "glass half-full" guy who always brought life to the party! "The Paul," as he was fondly known, had a zest for life and declared every beach, meal, golf course - you name it, "The Best!" Paul and Carol traveled the world on wondrous adventures, meeting an eclectic assort of people who wove together his life's tapestry. Paul was always on the go. He was passionate about his hobbies - golf, sailing, tai chi, reading, cooking, and all types of music catching live shows whenever possible. The beach was his favorite place finding peace and joy in the summers spent with his family at Nantasket for many years and then when he moved to Longboat Key. The pride he felt about his three daughters was epic and he loved being "Papa Paul" to his grandchildren. He felt the most immense joy of his later years while spending time with all of them. Paul had an entrepreneurial spirit and built successful businesses in New York and Rhode Island. Always energetic he was working late into his seventies. Over the years he was everyone's biggest cheerleader and mentored many family members and close friends, leaving a true legacy of positivity. Paul was preceded in death by his parents, William & Lillian Sklar; his in-laws, Carl & Marilyn Tanzer; and his son-in-law Lee Jacobson. He is survived by his beloved wife, Carolyn, of 63 years; his daughters, Toni Jacobson, Shari Jacobson, and Jodi Rosenthal; his son-in-law, David Jacobson; his grandchildren, Stevie & Mari Jacobson, Sydney & Jack Rosenthal; and Papa Paul to Kaitlyn Kostigen. He is also survived by brother, Richard Sklar, and his children, Evan & Betsy; and sister-in-law, Ricky Gold, her husband Michael, and daughter Taylor. Mostly, he loved his wife, family, and many lifelong friends. Paul was one of a kind - never will there be another so beloved by all. Paul will remain handsome, happy, and vibrant in our hearts forever. A Private Service will be held in Paul's honor.

The first time I met Paul on Long Boat, his New England accent was obvious. I told him I was from Boston, he smiled and called me his homie. Best complement ever. My love sent to all. Lisa Wheeler, Sarasota, FL I

A truly beautiful and heartwarming tribute to a beautiful soul. My sincerest condolences to the family. To know Paul was to be touched by a kind and gentle person with great charisma and energy. Paul and Carol helped my mother and father and me by renting their beach house in Hull/Nantasket Beach in the early 60´s. We eventually bought our house in Hull where I was raised. I have many fond memories on Nantasket Beach with Paul and the family. Paul was a great athlete and was one of the few people to beat the local tennis teaching pro (I´ll be looking for a rematch Paul). I kept in touch with Paul in my twenties and early thirties in NYC where he had and did business and I lived. We enjoyed many days and nights out at restaurants and at his office discussing business and of course his family. Although I didn´t connect with him in later life as frequently, I always asked (my mother who kept in close touch) about him and the family. Paul was a great role model for me and I can only begin to try and emulate him. Paul, we all miss you.

My condolances to the family. Paul was a good friend and father figure when I was growing up in the 1960's. As a teenager, I couldn't talk to my parents and Paul and Carol were always there to listen and counsel. I have very fond memories especially of our summers in Nantasket. We always kept in touch, although not as frequently as I would have liked in later life. The last time I saw Paul was in Tampa. I met him for dinner at one of his favorite restaurants and had a wonderful conversation catching up on our families, life as grandparents, and reminiscing. He was one of a kind! His charismatic personality and laugh will be missed..... Love to all
