PETER NOYES Obituary

NOYES, Peter Burton Peter Burton Noyes, of Marshfield, passed away on December 21, 2015 after a courageous battle with cancer. Peter was born in Melrose to the late E. Leo Noyes and Gertrude Westgate and was also stepson of the late Kenneth Blanchard, Sr.. A 1952 graduate of Abington High School, Peter served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army from 1953 to 1955 and then went on to attend Bridgewater State College, where he received his Bachelor's Degree in 1960 and his Master's Degree in 1966. Peter was a talented educator and principal in the Marshfield Public Schools for 34 years, with most of those years as Principal of the Daniel Webster Elementary School. Peter felt honored to hold that position and truly loved all of the people that he came to know in the community over the years. Highlights of his career include: Helping to initiate the first integrated preschool in Marshfield, developing math and literacy curriculums, serving as President of the Marshfield Teachers Association, bringing talented musicians to the school, and developing strong relationships with staff and students. His career was honored by the naming of the Peter B. Noyes Library at the Daniel Webster School. When Peter wasn't working, he enjoyed cooking for his family, traveling to visit family, and sharing his love of nature with the grandkids. He enjoyed baking pies, making pickles, picking blueberries, making jam, chopping firewood, clamming, fishing, making birdhouses, tinkering in his shed, and tending to his vegetable and flower gardens. Peter was also an active member at the First Parish Church in Duxbury and especially enjoyed the sermons and the music at church. Peter Noyes will be dearly missed. He is survived by his beloved wife of 58 years, Martha (DeCoster) Noyes and their children, Jon T. and Sarah Noyes of Orange, Conn., Peter C. Noyes of Marshfield, Brian G. Noyes of Duxbury, and Amy L. (Noyes) and Brian Sack of Duxbury. He was a treasured grandfather of Jacob, Abigail, William, Emma, Bridget, Peter T, Jillian, Griffen, Avery, Cristian, and Jessica, Peter is also survived by his dear brother, Kenneth R. Blanchard Jr., and his wife, Donna, who were a great support throughout his entire life and during his illness. He also has many other wonderful sisters- and brothers-in-law, nieces and nephews for whom he cared greatly. Peter was comforted by the love and care of his entire family during his illness; his family and grandchildren were his greatest joy.
