ROOS, Peter Edwin 84, beloved husband of 58 years of Suzanne Margaret (Hiss) Roos, passed away at Newfield House on July 17 after a long illness. Born in Bronxville, New York, on June 9th, 1932, Peter moved to Plymouth in 1939 with his parents, Edwin George Roos and Frances (Wendl) Roos. He is a graduate of Deerfield Academy, Dartmouth College, Thayer School of Engineering and Harvard Business School. An electrical engineer and management consultant, he worked for General Electric, Case Consulting in New York City and Stamford, Ct., was President, Chief Operating Officer and Director of H.K. Porter in Somerville, Ma and Co-owner and CEO of B.R Group in Orange, Ma. After 10 years in Norwalk, Ct., 30 years in Concord, Ma., and spending summers in Plymouth since 1974, Peter and Sue retired to the family home in Plymouth, Ma in 2005. Peter was a former trustee of Somerville Hospital, past chair of the Somerville Unit of the American Cancer Society, and on the board of Concord Friends of the Aging. After his retirement, he became a volunteer consultant with The Executive Service Corp. of New England as well as delivered meals for Meals on Wheels. At the time of his death, he was Trustee Emeritus of the Pilgrim Society/Pilgrim Hall Museum. Peter was an avid sailor having learned how to sail as a young boy at the Plymouth Yacht club. He also enjoyed woodworking, traveling and caring for his house both inside and out. Above all, he cherished his role as Grandfather. Besides his wife, he is survived by his son, Edwin (Ned) George Roos II and daughter, Emily Gillette Roos his granddaughter, Victoria (Tori) Margaret Willbanks-Roos and grandson, Nicolas (Nico) Peter David Roos all of Arlington, Ma. and his cousins Elizabeth (Roos) Beuthel and family of Mercer Island, Wa. and Carolyn (Roos) Brandle and family of Lincoln, Ne. He is also survived by Brother in law Fred Hiss and wife Marialyce, niece Judith (John) Giovannetti, nephews, John (Barbara) Hiss, David (Laurie) Hiss, 2 great nieces and 4 great nephews. He was predeceased by cousin Virginia (Roos) Stiers and niece Beth (Hiss) Farkas. Sorry for your loss and for Pete's discomfort the last few years. Pete and I were business partners from 1987 to 1997. Because we were neighbors, we would drive the hour to and from Orange, MA every day doing our management and board meetings daily in the car. Besides his good management skills, Pete had integrity, which is the most important characteristic in any partnership.
