I will always remember the first time I met BIG Z as I referred to him. Peter and Brendan where clowning around and Big Z said why can't you guys be more serious for a change like Jamsey. I then ran into him at the pharmacy and said BIG Z you know I kid around with those two all the time, because I now they can do big things with their lives. He said thats what I hope you get through to them well Phil I think they turned out alright. Liz I'm sorry to see your dad gone but He will live on in all our memories. Big Z don't forget you told me you were gonna give Brendan a big kick when you catch up to him in heaven. Well i'm sure he's waiting with St Peter to welcome you home God Bless you always BIG Z.

My sincerest condolences to Liz, Peter, Catherine and Phyllis at the loss of your dad and brother. I would like to think of your dad and brother as my mentor.
I met Phil around 15 years ago when I brought my son to the rink for his first introduction to hockey. He was running the snack bar with Harry and he was always a cheerleader and a motivator for the children. Both my sons cried when I told them of Phil´s passing.
He taught me what hockey was all about, "THE KIDS".
Everything that Phil did was for his children, his sisters (and brother in-laws Jack and Tom), his grandchildren and for ALL children.
He advocated for every child in the state of Massachusetts as a MA Hockey board member and his own Milton Youth hockey program. He encouraged the kids. When they were having a bad day at the rink he would be the soothing voice to blurt out something like "don´y worry, the sun will still shine tomorrow and you will come back and be smiling, ok BUDDY?"
I eventually served with him on the Milton Youth Hockey board and every decision that he made was made for "what´s best for the kids"? He fought for the kids and he left the Milton hockey program with a skating rink operated by the town of Milton for the benefit of children.
He also leaves a Milton Youth Hockey program that is the largest in the state of Massachusetts and a girls program that is also the largest in the state.
The Milton Youth Hockey program has Phil Zona´s name all over it. A program that is run for the enjoyment of children. As Phil would say over and over again "IT"S ALL ABOUT THE KIDS".
I will miss my friend but I will take solace in the fact that his legacy in the sport of hockey and his advocacy for children will live on.
Rest in peace......my friend.
