RAYMOND MCNAMARA Obituary

McNAMARA, Raymond P. Age 79, of Watertown, formerly of Newton, died peacefully at home with the love of his life, Denise, by his side on Jan. 11, 2022. He leaves 5 children, Michael and wife Diane of Sudbury, Joseph of Newton, Brian of Waltham, Charles Cardillo and wife Leslie of Texas, and Anne-Marie Cardillo of Watertown; 12 grandchildren; his sister Mary Ciraso; his late brother Robin; his brother Kevin and wife Maureen; and sister Marcia McNamara; and many nieces and nephews. Raymond is a retired injured lieutenant of the Newton Fire Department and a US Navy Veteran. He was an avid Red Sox fan; knew every song written in the 50's and 60's; and would remember details about you that even you didn't remember. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Bernard Parish, Washington St., West Newton, Saturday, Jan. 15, at 11:00am. Followed by entombment at Calvary Cemetery Mausoleum, Waltham. All attendees at church are asked to wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wounded Warrior Project or The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society. A Celebration of Life will be held post-pandemic. Arr. by Magni FH, Newton.

This is so weird to be writing this today, as I had a dream about Ray last night. I remember him stopping by the house when he first started dating Denise. He was so happy and had a grin from ear to ear. I so miss our chats. You are thought about often. Rest in Peace

Today is Valentine´s Day 2023, and it´s been over a year since you passed and I think of you everyday, missing your friendship and counsel and conversations, ruminating about the "job" and life in general, and whether there was "something" beyond this mortal coil. You are truly missed.

Deepest condolences to the family of Ray McNamara. I did not know him personally, but I was friends with his brother, Robin, who sadly predeceased Ray by just two and a half months. The brothers are together again in heaven with their parents. Ray's story, which can be found on Robin's website, is very inspiring. He was a hero in every sense of the word. Family and friends are in my thoughts and prayers.

Dear Denise and Family,

We remember Ray, before and after the accident, participating in the many road races around Newton.

To say he was an inspiration was an understatement. Not many of us have the courage to fight our way back as Ray did and live a happy and fulfilling life.
So incredible.
A real life hero.
Our deepest sympathy to you all.

Met Ray about 15 years ago. Was amazed and in awe of the love he had and shared with Denise. He never forgot any conversation he and I may have had. I remember just watching them dance to one of his endless list of music. He was an amazing, strong and role model to us all as to how to love and enjoy everyday that God gives us. Time to rest Ray. May his memory be a blessing.

I remember Ray from the 50's at the Franklin Playground on Derby Street in West Newton. As a kid he was always a fun loving and energetic person. Even then he loved the Red Sox. His life should be an inspiration to us all. Rest in peace Ray.

Dear Maureen, Ray overcame overwhelming circumstances to have more time with you and your family. He was truly a valiant warrior. He is now free of the burdens he bore and rests in the Palm of God's hands. May the memory of the happy years you had with him bring you peace and comfort in the times to come.

Ray came into my shop in auburndale (Nova). Even after the accident & his ensuing health issues, he lived life with no limitations & the most positive attitude....always upbeat. Denise would always be by his side, & her dedication was remarkable....an angel.
