To Ray's Family
I happened across Ray's obituary notice tonight by accident
My name is Steve Clifford and I met Ray in the late 80's early 90's. I was running extremely competitive adult hoop leagues up to pro-am levels and quite frankly I was losing control of the program. Then miraculously a friend asked me if I knew this guy Ray from Red Dot Mason and I said no
Honestly, the league was teetering on the whole black/white tension and I called this ref Ray
Didn't know one thing about him, but met him, liked him, hired him and witnessed the league blossom. Ray refereed all the big games and his voice of reason dominated every game.
All of sudden white or black was inconsequential.....the game took over
I loved Ray
Sorry for your loss so belatedly

Mr Nichols was truly a great man in every aspect. Not only could he wear a suit and tie and be the utmost professional but could also hang out and converse on any level. Growing up in the same neighborhood Ray was a father figure to all of us kids not only his own. Whenever I saw him he always wore a smile which would turn into his famous sleeping grin as he would remark "what are you goofballs up to now?!" Words cannot express how much he will be missed by is all, rest in peace.

I am representing a team of people who worked with Ray at the Strategic Pricing Group. I have accumulated remembrances from over 30 of Ray's former teammates at SPG. Unfortunately, I cannot post the accumulated comments because of size. In summary it is truly remarkable what a difference Ray made to all of our lives. He was truly loved and respected by all of us. I will give the family a document with all the responses at the memorial service. I have also included a picture from Ray's SPG retirement party.

Ray was truly a great man. We all feel privileged to have known Ray and he will be missed.

My heart is heavy with the lost of my Uncle Raymond - He was the Matriarch of our Nichols family and will be greatly missed. I will miss our phone conversations and the history of growing up with my grandparents Lillian & Harold Nichols, since I was only 4 years old when Nana went home. I enjoyed hearing your memories of her.

My thoughts and prayers are with the Nichols family. Mr. Nichols was a wonderful caring man. He gave his time so generously for his children and for all of the children growing up in Easton. He was always there with a kind word of support encouragement. We were truly blessed to have had mentors like him as we were growing up. Rest in Peace, you will certainly be missed.

Ray was one of the more influential people in my life. He coached and supported me as a basketball player from 4th grade through high school. He gave me the instruction and confidence I needed to develop as a player. More importantly, he was a role model for what it means to be a man. I will be eternally grateful for his guidance and support. My prayers are with Ramona, Mark, Derek and all of Ray's extended family. He was a prince of a guy.

Ray Nichols was a true class act. Somehow he pulled off being completely professional but also approachable, street smart and book smart, funny and kind yet knowing when to be serious. I never would have had a nearly 3-decade career in consulting if it wasn't for Ray teaching me about work/life balance. He made it easy - "Family (and friends) first. Work the other stuff around it." We love you and we'll miss you Ray but your simple words of wisdom and the MANY days of laughter will live on. - Lisa Thompson
