Uncle Ruby was a beacon of joyful loving attention. His poetry, much of which is in his books, Musings and More Musings touch on so many moments in our lives and his words live on.

Having just found out of the passing of Rabbi Katz as I think of him every year at this time, I am saddened. He truly was a piece of my familys life, as well as mine. He was a class act in every sense of the word. He, along with cantor Altman, provided a truly inspiring religious service which will always be remembers and has stayed with me all of my live. My sincere condolences to his children who I know. I can only say that I remember the poem with the tree: The roots went deep and the tree grew strong and firm. I was able to get a copy from Sheila in the front office. He married my wife and I, and again a class act. I treasure my photographs of my bar mitzvah with him. I remember distinctly how I had to attend by order of my father, additional classes after my confirmation of which I religiously did every weekend, even though I attended an out of town private school. The name of the book was a little lower than the angels. To whomever may remember him and to the children, I say Rabbi Reuben Katz was a little higher than the angels.

Rabbi Katz will always be warmly remembered. He led B'nai Israel with sincerity, wisdom, deep knowledge of Judaism, kindness, dignity and grace. He was a wonderful teacher and spiritual leader. It was our privilege to call him Rabbi.

Rabbi Reuben Katz presided at my Bar Mitzvah in 1948. His guidance and sermons delivered for many years at B'nai Israel were always touching and filled with wisdom and insight. His poetry writings were wonderful. May GOD BLESS HIS MEMORY

Wow! Rabbi Katz must have lived a long and hopefully wonderful life! So many memories of Hebrew School and services from age 5-10. Memories of Debby and Naomi! And of the Rabbi and Reba marrying my husband and me in 1980. (Tried unsuccessfully to upload a picture) My condolences and thoughts are with his family.,Karen Lampert and Daniel Akavan

Rabbi Katz brought class and a certain kind of properness to Congregation Bnai Israel. Although I quit Confirmation class because he made us memorize a definition of God (omnipotent, Omniscient and Omnipresent - a bit like Katz himself) he was a really important presence in all of our lives. Reba, his wife of 70 years, was equally classy and kind. Towards the end of my parents' lives, he was a regular and comforting visitor. He was a comfort to all of us at their funerals. I can still hear his deep, calm, kind and reassuring voice. Deepest Condolences to his family. May his memory be for a blessing

Rabbi Katz was a very significant figure in all our lives. Rabbi Katz checked our "achievement tests" in the Hebrew School, conducted my brother's bar mitzvah and my bat mitzvah, as well as both our weddings in Freeport. He was a master teacher and orator and lead beautiful services. B'nai Israel was my second home for many years.

Rabbi Katz officiated at my Bar Mitzvah, and inspired me to continue onto confirmation class, primarily because I knew he was the teacher.
I have many, many fond memories of Congregation B'nai Israel and the entire Katz family.
I hope each of you has a large trove of warm memories to help you through this time....
Most sincerely,

My condolances to Devi, Naomi and Jonathan. Rabbi Katz Bar Mitzvahed me and was a very special person. Although I last saw him at a funeral 20 years ago, he will always be in my memory.
