January 8, 2008

2008 - Another year has passed. Richard's absence in our lives is felt so often in so many ways. This past year Richie and I put an addition on our cottage at PS, put a floating floor in our sun room (Richie's and TJ's knees felt the effects for weeks so I will take no credit for that!) and trapped 2 squirrels in our attic! I wish I had a nickel for every time we wanted to consult Richard during each of these projects. We just thought he would always be there……….

Earlier this fall my son Joseph was the victim of a bully situation in the neighborhood. He went to his Dad and asked for advice. I overheard Richie telling him about a lesson he had learned from his own father. It went something like this:

“Joey, you have to stick up for yourself. No matter how difficult the situation or how scared or intimidated you may be it is important to stand your ground. However, if the situation escalates and turns violent and you can not win a fight with your fists alone then you must walk away. Never use weapons of any kind. This is the cowardly thing to do. My father taught me this when I was your age and I still believe it is true.”

Joey reflected on that for a while then went back out to play. It was a quiet moment, but very touching. I could almost picture my Richie as a child hearing that advice from his own father.

Later that day I overheard another conversation. This one was between my son and a friend in the neighborhood. He was telling that boy how his father had told him that he should fist fight to solve his problems and if he didn’t he was a coward! I guess that is a combination of selective hearing and an 8 year old attention span.

Anyhow – the premise is there. What Richard gave to us we continue to pass on. The loss is truly immeasurable, but so is the influence he had on those that loved him.

We are thinking of you and wishing, as always, that you were still here with us.

Daddy,
I love and miss you so very much and so do the kids. I know you are looking down at us and we are alright

Jennifer

January 8, 2007

It has been a tough year marked by grief, but still, not one with out smiles and laughter. Last night as we sat eating dinner I decided to try to engage the kids in a reflective conversation about their Papa. At first only Ava would chime in, stating funny facts about Papa, such as he makes better pancakes than Dad does (Don't tell Richie!). But, before long we were all talking and smiling and remembering. Joey pointed out how he brought Papa the long way home from the General Store in Point Sebago (Richard did not know his way at that point) so he could have extra medicine (a good long walk!). That was so funny. Richard just laughed. Never angry or annoyed. Inevitably though at one point all got quiet and tears came to all of the kids eyes (even Devin) and I could see that it is really hard for them to understand and accept all of this. Even so, it was very nice to enjoy those memories with the kids and I vow to do that more often going forward.

Rich, you meant so much to all of us. Even though the kids are young, my experience with them last night showed me that your hand in their life has helped to shape them. I know that you will watch over them and that gives both Richie and I comfort. I hope that you are taking it easy up there, you know relaxing and putting your feet up (yeah right!!!). Well, that's all for now…………rest in peace Richard.

On behalf of Richard's family I would like to express our thanks to everyone who reached out to show love and support during this difficult time. The kind words posted on this web site have brought smiles and comfort to his family. I hope you will continue to come here and share your memories of him. I know that I will.

It is so hard to believe that Rich has been gone more than 2 months. It is still surreal. My children ask about him often and I have pictures within easy reach. We look at those pictures and talk about their Papa, remembering happy times spent together. Rich was a great grandfather and he loved the kids so much. They were blessed to have him – even if their time together was short.

Richard – Please watch out for all of us. We love you and we miss you so much.

One could never ask for more wonderful and caring neighbors than the Pacitti Family. The loss of Richie is a loss for the entire neighborhood of Savin Hill. Richie will remain one of the friendliest and most caring people we have ever met. His smile, his quickness to lend a hand if needed and his all around love of life and his family made him so endearing to all that had the priviledge of knowing him. It has been an honor to call Richie, our friend and neighbor. He will be very very missed. Maryellen, Adriane, Marco, Matty, Richie, Chickie and Richie's much beloved Grandchildren- you are all in our prayers.

Richard and I used to chat when he was out walking the dog down at the beach in Savin Hill. Richard always had a funny story to tell and some interesting news about the neighborhood. I'll particularly miss him at McKennas Cafe as he was a very regular customer and always had a warm smile and something nice to say. This is very sad for the entire community and a very big loss of all of us. He will be dearly missed.

To all the Pacitti Family,

How shocked we were to hear of Richard's death. Even though we have been away from "home" since 1989, we still try to keep up with the news of folks back in the Dorchester area. This must be a very sad time for all of you and you will have to rely on your faith and on one another for comfort and support. We will pray, from a distance, for God's peace to fill each of your hearts. Hold on to your happy memories of life with Richard and may time be a very gentle healer for each of you. We extend our heartfelt sympathy to each of you.

Sincerely,

Dear MaryEllen and family. My heart is with all of you at this time of sorrow. Richard was a wonderful father, friend and husband. Always had a smile, a big "hello" and a kiss whenever he saw me. Time does not heal the heartache or lessen the pain, MaryEllen, but God's Infinite mercy sustains us through it all, somehow, and there will be many times when Richard's mannerisms, quick wit, and smiles will show through all his children and grandchildren to comfort you in the years to come. Believe me, I know, and when your work on earth is done he will be waiting for you with open arms and then you will know how happy he is now in the arms of Christ and His Blessed Mother Mary. My love to all of you and KEEP THE FAITH!! Love, Aunt Dolly
