RICHARD SIMMONS

SIMMONS, Richard Dick 68 of Loring Road passed away at home Wednesday March 26th. He was the husband of Virginia (Polvere) Simmons. He was the son of the late Domenic Pepsi and Mary (Bullock) Simmons. Dick grew up in Bristol and was a 1963 graduate of Colt Memorial High School. Serving in the Coast Guard Storekeeper in Boston he came home and became the purchasing director for University of Massachusetts, Boston retiring in March 2002. He enjoyed his retirement for the last 12 years building a winter log cabin home, mostly himself, and keeping his Bristol home neat and in Bristol Fashion. Spoiling his grandchildren was one of his passions and he was their Special Friend keeping them constantly entertained. Dick was the designated saver of the SPOT on Fourth of July morning after leaving the Clifton Road preFourth celebration. Dick is survived by his wife Virginia, son Scott and his wife Anna of Wayland MA, daughter Heather and her husband Joseph of Lexington SC, grandchildren Sofia Simmons, Harrison Elliott, Gavin Elliot and his sisters Carol and her husband James Tondra, Kathy and her husband Dodd Schock both of Warwick. His funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon from 2 to 6 PM at the George Lima Funeral Home, 367 High Street, BRISTOL, RI.
