ROBERT NORBERG Obituary

NORBERG, Robert D. Sr. "Bob" Age 63, passed away suddenly on Saturday, April 27, 2024, while at his home in Walpole, Massachusetts. Bob was born on March 1, 1961, at Fort Bragg, North Carolina to Major William Norberg and Marie (Duggan) O'Brien. He spent his first years of childhood traveling the country as an army brat and ultimately found his home in East Walpole, MA – God's Country. Bob spent his childhood on Pilgrim Way with his family and his dearest friends. He called Walpole home for the rest of his life. Bob met his first love, Robin (née Monahan), while he attended Xaverian Brothers High School in Westwood, MA. Bob spoke frequently about how it all started on that first blind date and to this day you will find a picture of Robin from those years on the background of his phone. Bob and Robin built a life together over 48 years, centered around their family and friends, who kept a continuous flow through the revolving door at the family homestead on Massachusetts Avenue. Bob graduated from Middlebury College in Vermont in 1983 and spent three memorable years on the Panthers football team. He would famously inspire his teammates with the mantra; "We may be small, but we're as slow as any big team." He missed his junior season to be with his second love, the city of Paris, seeing the world and occasionally attending classes. From there, Bob embarked on a long career in commercial real estate in Boston but never forgot his roots mowing lawns years earlier, at the venerated Windsor Gardens in Norwood, MA. He achieved success while creating lasting friendships and memories at BlackRock and AEW, where he was beloved by his peers and those he mentored. Bob's true passions were his community and above all, his family. He coached Walpole Pop Warner football, including the inaugural season of the Mighty Mites E-Team squad and was President of both Walpole Little League and Youth Football. He will go down in history to a generation of Pop Warner players who excitedly anticipated the one night each season that Bob ended practice, feeding his team with a trunkful of Chinese food from Mandarin Cuisine. Bob was a ubiquitous presence at the fields, courts and watering holes in and around Walpole. He loved being there with Robin, their five children, and the countless friends, teammates and parents he called his people. Carrying on his legacy are Robin and the beautiful family they built, Robert Norberg, Jr., and his wife, Christine White of Dover; Elizabeth Triantafilles and her husband, Demetrios of Walpole, Bryan Norberg and his wife, Justyna of Walpole and Tczew, Poland, Christopher Norberg of Walpole and Holly Norberg and her partner, Benjamin Collins of Foxboro. Bob relished his role as "Dampa" to his four grandsons, John, Thomas, Leo and Duggan and was eagerly awaiting the arrival of his first two granddaughters due within weeks of each other later this year. Bob was the lifelong best friend, trusted confidante and all-around rock for his siblings, William Norberg, Jr., Laura Lee Norberg and Julia O'Brien. He valued the counsel and support of his stepfather, Jim O'Brien, throughout his life. Bob is without a doubt looking down on his people, joined up above by those most important to him, his parents and treasured brother-in-law, Tim Monahan. We know Bob brought the Bloodies. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend Robert's Life Celebration on Thursday, May 9, 2024, from 4:00 - 8:00 pm, in the James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home, 48 Common Street, WALPOLE. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Blessed Sacrament Church, 10 Diamond Street, Walpole, on Friday, May 10, 2024, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at the Saint Francis Cemetery in Walpole. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Robert's name may be made to Walpole Scholarship Foundation at P.O. Box 58, East Walpole, MA 02032 or by visiting https://www.walpolescholarshipfoundation.org/ James H. Delaney & Son Funeral Home www.delaneyfuneral.com

Loved living next to you guys in God´s country on Pilgrim Way. That is one of the most beautiful obituaries I´ve ever read and is a true testament to the great man Bob was. I truly admire the loyalty and love that your family has for one another and know Bob is looking out for you. Bob was a great neighbor and a good man. May God bless you guys and Bob´s memory.

Hello
I'm Steve MacCormack, and I was Bob's classmate at Xaverian. We were pretty good friends for our Freshman and Sophomore years at XB. Bob was always a good natured and kind-hearted kid, and I certainly have just good memories of times we shared. When I heard that he had passed, I just found myself thinking about what a good kid he was.

I waited in line at the wake for a period last evening but couldn't stay because of the number of folks who wanted to pay their respects. I'm sorry I didn't get the chance to tell you this in person. The fact that the line was so long says everything about the impact that Bob has had on his family and friends. I am sorry for your loss-God bless your family

I also consider myself to be so fortunate and blessed to have called Bob Norberg, my friend. Although our contact was infrequent due to me living on both coasts, and now North Carolina, we always found a way to reconnect and step right back to where we left off the last time we talked or saw each other. He was that guy.

Like most of us, the news of his departure was shocking and that saddened so many of us. He´s one of those rare people where we can all be confident if there is a place called heaven, he´s in it

Rest in peace, my brother

I count myself among the fortunate to have been a lifelong friend of Bobby. As grade schoolers dating back to 1968, we shared times akin to those depicted in the movie "Stand By Me", simply riding our bikes, playing endless street hockey - Go B´s!!! - and exploring every inch of Bird Park. Glory Days! Later on we shared high school together at XBHS - fellow Hawks - and then Middlebury in our college years - fellow Panthers. My wife Nancy and I were blessed to spend quality time with Bobby and Robin as they started their beautiful family in West Roxbury and later Walpole. We will always reflect fondly on those wonderful memories. Such a terrific human being who leaves behind a massive legacy to be admired and amazing memories to be cherished. RIP, my dear friend, congratulations on a life well lived, and deepest condolences to a family who will continue to make you proud from on high.

Chris, Nancy, and all of the Marzillis who were most fortunate to have enjoyed your friendship. Peace!

I have been playing Words With Friends with Bob for 10 yrs! We actually decided to meet about 4 yrs. ago in Key Largo, Florida. I was very nervous about this as I´ve never done anything like that before. He and Robin showed up and the 3 of us hit it off immediately! The following year we met again when he came wrote with the family. From reading what the family wrote it seems like he was quite a guy. I´m sure his spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. My thoughts and prayers are with the family at this terribly difficult time. RIP friend.

After reading Bob's obituary it does not surprise me the impact he had on all he came in contact with over his life. I had the pleasure of working for him on industrial projects he was asset manager for ( AEW) and he was not only a great client but kind, fair and a great example. And i love reading about his coaching you know he was a great little league coach. Bob was a coach. Coach Norberg was so successful and a winner at Life. And he made everyone better like all great coaches do...

This good man is in Heaven and what a beautiful legacy he left behind. My sincere condolences and prayers go out to the Norberg and AEW family. We will miss him - and we will see him again.

May God Bless you.

I met Bob 10 years ago when AEW bought a majority interest in a building in Houston, which gave us the opportunity to work together. He was fabulous to work with and became a personal friend. He was constantly talking about his family and how proud he was of all of them. He was so well liked by our team in Houston that he was invited to the wedding of one of my co-workers and he and Robin came. He was so much fun and full of life. I'm so sad for his family and close friends . . . that's a big loss. RIP Sugar, you will be missed.

So very sad. Bobby was a great guy in all respects. Full of life and willing to help, share, contribute, participate and more to everything surrounding family, friends, neighbors, and community. He will be sorely missed but always remembered by everyone he touched. Go in Peace my friend.

It´s hard to express how sad this news is and how much Bobby will be missed. Bobby and I played Babe Ruth baseball together, and he always had funny stories to tell of those days. He was an East Walpole kid through and through. His commitment to his family and Walpole athletes was incredible, and I will miss seeing him at games, around town or on the train to Boston. The reaction to his passing is the same from everyone: "Such a great guy."
