1920 - 2017

OLSEN, Robert C. Age 96, World War II Army Veteran, entered into eternal rest on May 5, 2017 after a short illness. He was the beloved husband of Lois Reed Olsen celebrating 70 years of marriage; loving father of Paula Olsen of Providence, RI and Richard R. Olsen of Woburn; Beloved grandfather of Jennifer Addonizio and Jeffrey Addonizio; Nicole Olsen, Natalie Olsen, and Richard Olsen; Adoring great-grandfather of Lily Jane Addonizio. Mr. Olsen was born and raised in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the loving son of Martin and Elizabeth Olsen. He graduated from the University of Minnesota in 1941 and served in the Army as a lieutenant and tank commander in the tank division under General Patton in Germany. After the war years, Mr. Olsen joined Buick Car Division of General Motors where he quickly rose to Boston Regional Zone Manager. Having moved to Boston and enjoying the east coast, Mr. Olsen chose to enter the retail end of the automotive business and opened R. C. Olsen Cadillac, Inc. located in Woburn, MA. He celebrated 50 years in business in 2013. Mr. Olsen was an avid semi-pro tennis player and enjoyed the thrill of skiing having been a ski jumper in his youth in Minnesota. But his love was golf and he was a passionate golfer. He was a member of Winchester Country Club and Captain of the Summer Twi league at Winchester for many years. He and Lois were members at Oyster Harbors Country Club on Cape Cod as well as wintering in Stuart, Florida at Pipers Landing Golf Club. As a private pilot, he owned and flew a Beechcraft Bonanza for fun. An extraordinary man from an extraordinary generation – greatly loved and admired. Visiting hours will be held in the Eaton Funeral Home, 1351 Highland Ave, Needham, on Tuesday, May 9, 2017 from 4-8pm. Relatives and friends kindly invited to attend.
