ROGER CHASSEY Obituary

CHASSEY, Roger B. Devoted Husband and Father Age 90, formerly of Brockton and Easton, passed away on March 17th at Willow Crossing in Mansfield. Roger was the devoted husband of the late Melodye (Heath) Chassey for 53 years until her death in 2009. They raised three daughters, Romelle Berry of Easton, Andrea Martinez of Easton and Lisette Smith (Mrs. Andrew) of Larkspur, California. He was the beloved Papa of five grandchildren, Jenna (Mrs. Ryan) Bickford, the late Adam Berry, Jessica Martinez, Lauren (Mrs. Scott) Lelakes and Benjamin Smith and two great-granddaughters, Amelia and Emily Bickford. He graduated from Brockton High School and served in the US Air Force during the Korean conflict. He spent his career at New England Telephone, retiring in 1990. He is also survived by his brother Raymond Chassey of Missouri and sister Claire Power of New Jersey and several nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Rose Marie McCarthy. Roger loved to play tennis and played well into his 80s. He attributed his longevity to his strict diet of black coffee, hamburgers especially from McMenamy's in Easton, Absolute martinis and smoking. He was a voracious reader and loved to discuss the news and current events. In his later years, Roger experienced dementia and participated in the Boston University Alzheimer's Center Hope Study. He made arrangements to donate his brain for research into the brain changes associated with aging and Alzheimer's disease. In lieu of flowers, donations in Roger's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Association, alz.org Visiting Hours: Services in Roger's honor will be held later this year.

We will miss Roger. He was the sweetest guy. Always a smile on his face. My Mom had a special place in her heart for him. We have lots of fond memories and laughs from Claire's annual Birthday Parties and meeting the family for lunches.
He is forever in our heart.
