SAVERIO IOVANELLA Obituary

Iovanella, Saverio (Henry) 95, longtime resident of Topsfield, Ma, husband of the late Mary (Marciano) Iovanella died March 11, 2014 at his home. Born in Boston, Ma, he was the son of the late Francesco Iovanella and Carmella (Russo) Iovanella. He was a 1936 graduate of Roxbury Latin and a 1938 graduate of the North Bennett Street School of Arts. Saverio was an entrepreneurial man from an early age. As a young boy he shined shoes and ran a fruit and produce business in Haymarket Square. In the 1940's he established a limousine business. In 1949, Saverio started his wholesale automotive business, Henry's Auto Sales. He was a pioneer in the automotive wholesale business sector, as in that era auto wholesaling had been very limited. Saverio ran his automotive business from 1949 – 2010. Saverio was also active in real estate development and established Topsfield Construction in the 1960's and managed it to the late 1980s. Saverio was also employed for 50 years as a ticket agent at Suffolk Downs in Revere, Ma. Until the time of his death he continued to work as a business consultant and strategist for his son, Frank Iovanella with his many business ventures. Above all, Saverio will be most remembered as a "True Family Man". He was always willing to advise, help, and nurture his family and his many friends. He inspired people to "Think Big" and that anything is attainable with hard work and dedication. He was a true Renaissance man and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his dear sister, Rose Iovanella DeSimone of Malden, his children, Frank and his partner Carol Foster of Topsfield, devoted daughter Teresa and her husband Nick Jacobellis of Ipswich and son John and wife Kimberly of North Andover. He is also survived by two sisters–in-law Yolanda and Grace Marciano both of Topsfield. His grandchildren, Gregory and wife Kristen Iovanella, Angela and husband Elshad Kasumov, Joshua and wife Anne, Brittney and Zachary Iovanella. His step-grandchildren, Natalie Talas, Nicholas Jacobellis, and Lisa Caputo and nine great grandchildren. Saverio had many nieces and nephews along with good friends including Shirley Baker Russell and Sean Fenton, and Marilyn and Dallas Washington. He was predeceased by a sister Antoinette D'Onfrio. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Rose of Lima Church, 12 Park Street, Topsfield, on Wednesday March 19 at 11:00 AM. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting Hours at the Campbell- Lee Moody Russell Funeral Home, 525 Cabot Street, North Beverly, Tuesday, March 18, from 4:00 PM – 7:00 PM. Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery, Topsfield, Ma. After a full life, may all of Saverio's family's memories live on, and we should know he is in a better place with his previously departed loved ones. God Bless.

Though I never met Saverio in person, I knew him through his loving daughter Teresa. I can remember the phone calls to Poppy when Teresa and I would travel together for business. I know he was her rock, and guided her through life. I am sadded for her, and that I was not able to give him that hug in person.
God Bless the Iovanella and extended families, in the time of sadness
