STEPHEN CASEY Obituary

Casey, Stephen J. Of Belmont, May 23, 2014. Steve, 83, passed away peacefully at Massachusetts General Hospital after a long illness. He was surrounded by his loving family at the time of his death. Steve was born in Belmont, MA, the only son of Annie and Stephen Casey. He graduated Belmont High School in 1948, Boston College in 1952, and Harvard Business School in 1954. Steve was commissioned as a lieutenant in the Navy and proudly served his country for nearly four years, during which time he was stationed on the U.S.S. Leyte and Roy O. Hale. After the Navy, Steve began his career at Touche Ross before joining First Realty Company. He spent the majority of his career as a partner with the former State Street Development Company and continued with this firm until his retirement at age 80. Very active in the community, Steve was a long-standing member and former President of the Belmont Lions Club, a Belmont Town Meeting Member and served on many committees, including the founding board of Caritas Communities. Steve married the former Norma Ross on November 29, 1958 and they raised four children in Belmont. It was there, and in the family's home in Pocasset, MA, that they created decades of lifetime memories with their large contingent of close and loyal friends. Steve and Norma travelled extensively with friends and shared many trips with their children and grandchildren. They split their time between Belmont and Pocasset, with winters spent in Naples, FL, where Steve indulged in his love of golf. Steve was a member of the Pocasset Golf Club and The Club at Pelican Bay. He was an avid sailor and was especially happy spending time at the Cape. He loved to be busy and active, but his most cherished activity was living through and with the experiences of his children and grandchildren. Steve was a man of high integrity, humility and honesty and will be deeply missed by his loving family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie and Stephen Casey, his sister, Mary Agnes "Polly" Casey and his granddaughter, Allison McDonough. Steve is survived by his beloved wife of 56 years, Norma, as well as by his four children and their families: Kathleen & husband Tom McDonagh of Acton, MA; Stephen & wife Kathleen of Chicago, IL; Lisa & husband Mark McDonough of Belmont, MA; and Diane and husband Al Boulanger, of Belmont, MA. He also leaves seven loving and amazing grandchildren: Brian & Sean McDonagh, Alicia & Colleen McDonough, Hannah Theuerkauf and Stephen Casey, and Sydney Boulanger. Steve is also survived by his sister, Nancy Casey of Hingham, MA. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 in St. Joseph's Church, 130 Common Street, Belmont at 10:30 A.M. Interment Belmont Cemetery. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend visiting hours in St. Joseph's Church, Belmont, MA on Tuesday, May 27, 2014 from 4 to 8pm. In lieu of flowers, donations in Steve's memory may be made to: Massachusetts General Hospital, Dr. Nicte Mejia's Parkinson's Disease Research at Mass General Hospital Development Office, Attn: Shawn Fitzgibbons, 100 Cambridge Street, Suite 1310, Boston, MA 02114. www.stantonfuneralhome.com
