STEPHEN KENDIG Obituary

KENDIG, Stephen D. 56, of Carlisle died unexpectedly on September 12, 2016. A graduate of UNH, he was a talented engineer with several design patents and publications to his credit. Steve was an avid runner and was the happiest when he was with his children skiing, mountain biking or playing soccer. He is survived by his loving sons Carter, Hunter and Beck, and his wife Shelli. In honor of the family's history and love of Sugarloaf, a fund has been established in Steve's memory. In lieu of a public service or flowers, gifts may be sent to the Stephen Kendig Memorial Fund, Carrabassett Valley Academy, 3197 Carrabassett Drive, Carrabassett Valley, ME 04947. Donations will benefit the mountain's Junior Alpine Race Program and the new Competition Center at the base of the mountain. Very saddened to read of Steve's passing in the UNH Alumni magazine today. I was an engineering classmate of Steve's. When we graduated in 1981, we both took offers to work with Hewlett Packard - he in San Diego and me in Sunnyvale. We drove across country together in eight days in June of 1981 to our new jobs. It was a great trip which I've related to my children many times. This summer I'll be doing that trip in reverse as my son will attend graduate school in NY. But I'll be thinking of the trip Steve and I made.
My sincerest condolences to his family.

Everyday when I walk past Steve's cubicle I still want to peek in and just say 'hello'. I miss him and our chats about the boys and how proud he was of them. We loved to complain about the traffic going to Gillette Staduium, he for soccer and me just going home. I miss him so very much, his quick smile and easy grace. He was a fine engineer and a fine man who will be sadly missed by all who knew him. I cannot express in words how sad I feel for Shelli, Carter, Hunter and Beck but someone else once wrote:
Sadly missed along life's way,
quietly remembered every day...
No longer in our life to share,
but in our hearts, you're always there.
With heartfelt sympathy

Steve and I only met twice a year when we had our FAE meeting at LTC. And although we didn't had the deepest discussions/talks during this meetings I'll try to imagine your personal loss, which makes me very sad. God bless his family and I'll keep Steve in my memories and prayers.

Shelli...I am stunned and heartbroken to hear of Steve's passing. Having shared so many happy times with you and the boys makes this sad news almost impossible to fully comprehend.
May the wonderful memories of times together and knowing Steve's deep love for you, Carter, Hunter and Beck carry you gently through the loss you're feeling now.
With heartfelt sympathy and prayers for you and the boys, love always, Cecilia Kendig

Steve was one of my best friends at Linear Technology. Every FAE meeting we would have dinner together at least twice, his favorites were Ho Chow and The Banana Leaf. He always spent the night talking about how proud he was of his family, and how he would do anything for them. I remember working with him on a circuit simulation with him one night, it was running very slowly on his computer. I commented that his computer was many generations old, he needed to upgrade. He said I'd rather spend the money on my family than get myself a new computer. That's the way he was, always thinking of others first. This meeting in October is going to seem very lonely without him. God bless his family, my deepest condolences on your loss.

As a coworker and fellow skier, Steve and I would always catch up on his kid's latest ski racing successes at our sales meetings. You knew by the way he talked about his family that he loved them dearly. It was also obvious how proud he was to simply be their dad. My prayers are with you, and may God give each of you His peace.

I just can't believe it.
I was fortunate to get to know Steve partly because Beck and my son raced together. Steve was always smiling and saying good morning to us in the locker room at the Loaf. He would help out in a second with any race or gear question that I had. We will miss seeing him at the Loaf- in the locker room and on the hill. Our condolences to Shelli, Carter, Hunter, and Beck.
