Dear Lizzie, Mr. Thompson and Katie,
Please accept my heartfelt condolences. Lizzie -- I was your 9th grade English teacher at NCS and was always so impressed by your maturity and intelligence. I truly enjoyed meeting your parents during conferences and asked them how they raised such a great person.
Katie Wagner (who used to work for Dodge at the National Gallery) told me about Sylvia's sudden passing. I am so sad and am thinking of the Thompson family.

Dear Dodge, Murray, Harry, John, Sam, and Peter, and the rest of the Thompson and Howe Families,
I was shocked, indeed devastated, to hear of Sylvia's tragic death. She was my first and best friend at Concord Academy. I have always been so proud of her work in primate research, natural history, and science eduation. I will always remember swimming and laughing with her on the Cape and wonderful times in Weston with all the Howes. My mother Betty Braucher (age 87) also sends her deepest sympathy to Murray and the whole family.
I have heard the memorial service was wonderful and was so sorry to miss it due to a severe knee injury.
Love to you all,
Karen Braucher Tobin

My condolences to the family. I worked with Sylvia years ago at Beauvoir and greatly admired her elegant simplicity and her deep zest for living.

Dearest Dodge, Katie and Lizzie, Unimaginable loss leaves those behind wondering why? Our souls journey is long, although this life is short. May each of you take solice in the fact that we are forever together in spirit. I will remeber Sylvia pointing out butterflies and collecting leaves in Idaho for her students in DC. What a precious gift her life was to all of us. All my love

Dear Dodge, Murray, John, Sam, Peter, Harry and all: Lucy and I were blown away to hear of Sylvia's tragic death. It seems like we were just talking to her the other day on the porch of the Anderson's house on Howes Street. She was such a lovely, bright, vibrant person. We can only begin to imagine how huge a loss this is for you. Everything happens for a reason, and while it is not always clear at the time what that reason is, we hope that your faith will help you through this terribly difficult time.

Dear Sam,Lisa and the rest of the Howe family; We are so very, very sorry about this devastating loss. It is just so sad (as you said Lisa). After hearing so much about Sylvia(a fellow Smithie);I was looking forward to meeting her in person at some point in the future(having missed her when she was in Seattle helping out when the Verhoveks returned from China). Please know that all of you are in our thoughts and prayers, and we are available to help out in any way we can(airport pick-ups,kid transport or supervision,meals,Pearl/Madeline duty, etc.) Please convey my sympathy to all of the family, especially your Dad, Sylvia's husband and daughters. with love, the Woolstons
