Thomas Doherty Obituary

In Winthrop, July 8. Survived by Kathleen (Ford) Doherty and their 4 daughters, Elizabeth, Caitlin, Danielle and Meaghan all of Winthrop. Loving son of Athene (Gray) Doherty of Dracut and the late William J. Doherty. Brother of Patrick and his wife Claire of Winthrop, Michael and his wife Judy of Boca Raton, FL, Timothy and his wife Ann-Marie of Lawrence, Mary Hickey and her husband Andrew of Dracut, Janice Mancini and her husband Mario of Melrose, and Kathleen Doherty of Dracut. Also survived by several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the O'Maley Funeral Home, 79 Atlantic St, WINTHROP on Monday at 9 AM followed by a Funeral Mass in the Church of St John the Evangelist at 10 AM. Relatives and friends invited. Visiting hours Sunday 2-5 PM. In lieu of flowers gifts in Tom's name may be sent to the Bread of Life, 511 Main St, Malden, MA 02148. At the request of the family, interment private.

I did not have the pleasure of knowing Tom, but having met Kathleen (Kat) and having worked with her in Minnesota....I found a friend for life and so I am one of the lucky ones to have experienced the love, laughter and special joy just from knowing a Doherty. I was shocked and saddened to hear of Tom's passing. I was fortunate to know him during my time in Quincy.He was the perfect family man and always seemed to take care of himself. God does things in strange ways as he was much too young to leave us. God Bless his family.

Tom and I worked together at CNA for many years. He was a wonderfully calm sounding board for work as well as family issues, and for him, his family was his life. He spoke constantly about his wife and the girls, their next sporting event, his hopes and dreams for them. I am honored that our paths intersected, my life has certainly been made richer by knowing Tom.

Tom and I worked together at CNA for many years. Though never in the same CNA local,we met up often when I traveled to Quincy or we both traveled to the Home Office. Tom's enthusiasm for family and life was infectious and an inspiration for me as I started my own family. Though we had lost touch when he left CNA, I thought of him often. My warm thoughts and prayers to family and friends in this time of sorrow.

Tom and I worked together at CNA on a few occasions. He had the most gentle spirit and lived his beliefs. His love and pride for his family always came first. Every conversation began and ended with words of family. I am a better person for having had the chance to know Tom, and for that I am truly grateful. He helped me keep life in perspective. It is with great sadness that I learn of Tom's passing. I worked with Tom at CNA for 14 years. I came to know Tom well during our lunchtime walks. I know how much he loved his family and how proud he was of his girls.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.
