THOMAS STACK Obituary

STACK, Thomas F. Jr. Of Boston, formerly of Dedham, MA, passed away at his home, on August 27, 2023. He was 66 years old. Born in Boston, Tom was the son of the late Thomas F Stack, Sr and the late Alice (Fitzhenry) Stack. Raised in Boston as well, Tom had success, both athletically and academically, at Boston College High School and then later at Harvard University, where he received his degree in history and spent time on the football team. He received his law degree at the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific, which started his long and successful career in law, ending in more than 20 years at Liberty Mutual in Boston, before retiring in early 2021. Tom was an avid supporter of all Boston sports, especially the Red Sox and the Patriots, which stemmed from his own personal success in both baseball and football. As one of the most well-read people you would meet, he was always willing and eager to discuss history, current events and politics at length. Tom was a devoted father to his daughter, Emily Stack of Pittsburgh, PA and his son, Sam Stack of Boston. He was the former husband of the late Mary Crosby Stack of Dedham. He was a loving brother to Barbara Gaynor of Halifax, MA and her husband, Bert Gaynor, William Stack of Canton MA and his wife, Lisa Stack, Theresa Stack of Scottsdale, AZ, Carolyn Phillips of Phoenix, AZ and her husban Chandler Phillips and the late Nancy Eastman of Medford, MA. Visitation at the George F. Doherty & Sons Wilson-Cannon Funeral Home, 456 High St., DEDHAM, on Thursday, August 31, from 4 to 7pm. Funeral from the funeral home on Friday, September 1, at 9am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Mary Church, Dedham at 10am. Relatives and friends kindly invited. Interment private. Please accept my condolences. I was a team mate of Tom's at Harvard and I can only smile and sometimes laugh when I remember him. Fleetwood Mac had a line in a song "Players only love you when they're playing" which is true but for me I would add "or if Tom Stack is your team mate". He made football fun and truth be told probably got me in trouble often by sneaking up and whispering something in my ear while the coach was talking who did not appreciate my laughter. Even though I got in trouble - I would do it all over again as my fondest memories of Harvard football were spending extended time with Tom. I can only imagine your grief over losing him as I just had that small period of time with him and I am deeply saddened. He will be missed - I will pray for him and his family. RIP buddy!

Tommy Stack was one of the best athletes that Randolph ever produced. Football, Baseball, boxing... he was the best. His mom and dad were some of the best parents one could hope for. Billy, from the Allen family, we express our deepest condolences to your family. I can remember several years ago your mom visiting my folks in Florida. We spoke at length about you, Tom, and the great family that you have. Our prayers are with you and your family in this time of loss.

Sam, Emily and brother Billy and the extended Stack family:

Please accept my condolences on the loss of your dad and brother Tom.

He was foremost, a great and loyal friend who embraced being a father to Emily and Sam.

It was no surprise that he achieved academic and athletic success in high school, college, law school, and later as highly respected lawyer.

Tom was a renaissance man; student, athlete, lawyer, brother, proud father, screenwriter, and author.

Rest in peace, Tom!

To Sam, Emily & the rest of the Stack family: I was very saddened to hear the news of Tom's death earlier today. I've known Tom for over 30 years, as our paths crossed many times over our legal careers. He was a great man, a wonderful lawyer, always a fun guy to go to a ballgame, a dinner and yes, a bar, with, and a very proud father to his twins. I have always had great respect for Tom's intellect and real passion for the law, and I will always remember him fondly and with great respect. Rest in peace, Tommy. God bless. OO
