WALTER BLACKER Obituary

BLACKER, Walter Edward 80, of Manchester, died March 6, 2014 at the Community Hospice House in Merrimack after enduring a battle with cancer. He was born in Charlestown, MA on May 9, 1933, the son of John J. Blacker and Ann G. (Clarke) Blacker. He grew up in Charlestown and was educated in the local school system. He served his country as a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Korean Conflict. Following his honorable discharge, he was employed as a truck driver and was a member of the Teamsters Local 25 for over 25 years before his retirement. Walter was married in 1959 to Alice M. Bowser and together they relocated to Somerville, MA where they lived for eleven years. They also lived in Reading, MA for twenty years before finally settling in Manchester to be closer to their children and grandchildren. He enjoyed bowling at Lakeside Lanes in Manchester, reading, family camping and was an ardent New England Patriots fan. He was also especially proud of his annual Christmas Village display. His favorite times were spent with his wife visiting Nubble Lighthouse in York Beach, ME. He will be remembered as a loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather. He was predeceased by his wife of 52 years, Alice M. Blacker, in 2011. Members of his family include his four daughters, Carole Picard & her husband Leo of Manchester, Margaret "Peg" Blacker, also of Manchester, Christine Adcock and her husband George of Newton, NH, and Sandra Dion and her husband Matthew of Pembroke, his son, Kevin Blacker and his wife Wendy of Henniker, his seven grandchildren, Pamela Picard of Peabody, MA, Drew Picard of Manchester, Jacqui Blacker, Leanne Blacker and Devin Blacker, all of Henniker, Glenn Dion and Joshua Dion, both of Pembroke. He is survived by his three brothers, William and his wife Theresa of York, ME, Robert and his wife Joanne of Haverhill, MA, Donald of Kittery, ME, and his sister Kathleen Thompson of Manchester, as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brothers Richard, John and Paul, as well as his sisters Margaret Prendergast and Barbara Wilkinson. Visitation will be held on Monday March 10 from 4 to 8PM at the McHugh Funeral Home, 283 Hanover St. corner of Beech St. in MAN- CHESTER. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 11 at 10AM in St. Peter Church, 567 Man- chester Rd., Auburn, NH. Burial will follow in Mt. Calvary Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Walters name to the Community Hospice House, Development Office, 7 Executive Park Drive, Merrimack, NH 03054. I knew Walter and Alice from when we lived at Rosecliff Development in Manchester. GREAT people and I am very sad that I just found out about both of them. I remember their visits to my house and all of their advices, the laughs and more. I would of love to be present to pay my respect. To all of their family, i am very sorry for your lost. I have been sending Christmas card for years, no wonder I didnt get a response this year........I am very sad. God Bless you all at this difficult moments.
