My deepest condolences to the Burns family. I got to know Bill during my time in Lowell as editor of The Sun, and I found him to be wonderfully gifted educator and a quick wit. Bill had the respect of students and faculty alike. A tremendous family man who will be deeply missed by the school community.

Although I am more than a decade younger than Coach Burns, my memories of him go back to the late 60's when he played basketball in the Lowell Recreation Dept. men's league run by my father(Jack Campbell). One night at O'Donnell park, I fell and banged my head in the old bathrooms. It was coach Burns who came over with a bag of ice from his team, for my head. I was only about 9 yrs. old then. From then on I would say hi and he would always stop and talk with me. Both my father and oldest brother(Jack) knew Bill well, as they were both Keith grads and former college athletes. My brother Jack was a couple of years behind him at Keith. I remember Bill when he was a park instructor at Father Maguire Park in Pawtucketville where he worked with all us every day for a summer. He later coached JV Baseball at Lowell High during my sophmore year. Bill had the rare ability to be a great coach, as well as your friend, and always had a tremendous sense of humor. He also made you feel like what you had to say was the most important thing in the world. I truly believe it was important to him. Although I had not seen Bill in years, I will always appreciate what he did for so many kids in the Greater Lowell area, as their coach, friend, advisor and role model.

He will be missed. I will always appreciate my good fortune of having known him.

My thoughts and prayers are with his family. Time and great memories

will help you through difficult times.

God Bless,

Mike Campbell

To the Burns Family: I was unable to say Goodbye so I am grateful for this chance to say thank you.The influence of educators like Mr. Burns can be absolutely profound. I was a 1986 graduate of the Marketing Education shop at Greater Lowell. Bill was then "Cluster Chairperson." I later took classes with him through Fitchburg state and wish I could tell him I finally completed my teaching certificate. I am blessed to have had such amazing mentors in my life. May I bring to the profession the caring, dignity and love that you did! Thank you sir.

To the Burns family my wife(Sue Kew Tousignant) express condolences to your loss. I attended Keith with Bill and also worked on the recreation department with him. I always admired his intellegence, athleticism and most of all his character. Often I would run into him in the Belvidere area. In an age where parents and children are seeking true role models Bill was a front-runner for excellence. Again deepest sympathies from my wife and I. Respectfully Dave and Sue Tousignant

Dear Bobbi,

Although decades have passed since Keith Academy and Lowell State there are snapshot memories of Bill that will live on in my mind forever. Some are athletic moments on the basketball court. Some are humorous moments in the cafe, the Worthen, Salisbury Beach, and the Frat House. Intellectual moments in classes, and conversations. It was his mind that impressed me more than anything else. Bill always had a way to verbally put things into the proper perspective when others were struggling to find the answer. My condolences to you, your children, and your grandchildren.

Bobbie and family,

I would like to offer my sincerest condolences to you and your family. Billy was a special individual who played an important part in the early years of my life. Although much time has passed since those days at State, his impact on others remains as vivid and remarkable today. The remembrances still remain as though it was yesterday.
