WILLIAM MACKEY Obituary

MACKEY, William K. "Bill" Of Woods Hole, MA, died peacefully in Boston on Saturday, July 6, at the age of 87. He is survived by his loving wife and life partner of 58 years, Winnie; his son William T. "Tim" Mackey and spouse Carol Lee Rawn of Cambridge, MA; and his son Cameron K. Mackey and spouse Susana of New Canaan, CT. He is also survived by his brother Edward S. "Scudder" Mackey of Jupiter, FL. Bill also leaves his six grandchildren: Brita, Anna, William, Colin, Logan and Hunter Mackey. Bill was preceded in death by his daughter Abigail B. Mackey and his sister Christine Mackey. Bill was born on March 31, 1932, in Elizabeth, NJ. He attended Princeton University, graduating in 1954, and Harvard Law School, earning his law degree in 1959. Bill would go on to practice law in Boston, Osterville, and Falmouth, continuing his work up until the time of his death. He married Winnie Crane on April 22nd, 1961, in Dalton, MA. The couple resided in Brooklyn Heights (NY), Winchester, Milton and finally Woods Hole, welcoming their three children and six grandchildren into the family. In their later years, Bill and Winnie shared a life by the sea, filled with travel, golf, and engagement with the community. Bill was a loving husband, father and grandfather, whose overarching values of kindness, simplicity, family and community guided him throughout his life. A big-hearted man with a modest demeanor, he thrived at making others feel important and respected. He deeply valued his day-to-day interactions with his friends and his community in Woods Hole. He will be remembered as a passionate baseball fan, tennis player, reader, and an avid swimmer and cyclist - enjoying swims and bike rides even in his final days. A brief Celebration of his Life will be held on the August 2nd at 4:00 pm at his home, followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Greater Yellowstone Coalition greateryellowstone.org or the Cape Cod Community College Education Foundation www.ccccfoundation.org in memory of William K Mackey. Dear Winnie, Tim, Cam, and Family, I am deeply saddened and words are of no help in expressing the sorrow I feel at this moment. I know this is far from what all of you are going through right now, my prayers are for you during this sorrowful time. "Death can never take a good man away, for in the hearts of the people he inspired, the legacy remains and continuous throughout generations". May you find comfort in your memories. With loving thoughts, Kathleen

So sad to learn we have lost one so special! Since our earliest days of the Falmouth Free Clinic, now Community Health Center of Cape Cod, Mr. Bill Mackey and dear Winnie have been by our side. Bill's inquisitive, caring and humble demeanor was like no other. Thoughts and prayers,
